BlackBerry Services are Coming Back Online

If you own a BlackBerry, you'll be happy to know that your BlackBerry services should be coming back online.  While services have been down for users in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for a couple of days already, service in Canada and the US started having issues a little over 24 hours ago.  Services are now returning in all areas with many users reporting considerable improvement from this morning.  Expect some delays to continue as the backlog is cleared, but users should now be getting emails, have browser access, and should be getting BBM access again (although there are reports of delays for some users still, myself included).

If your BlackBerry is still having problems, try doing the following:

For BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 to 5.0:

Go to Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Table, press the BlackBerry Menu button and select Register Now.

For BlackBerry Device Software 6 and 7:

Go to Options > Device > Advanced System Settings > Host Routing Table, press the BlackBerry Menu button and select Register Now.

If you have an older device, you can get additional instructions from here:

Again, expect delays to continue for a bit longer, but hopefully RIM will have us fully back up and running shortly.

For those who are interested, RIM's CEO has now posted a video apology and update. It can be viewed here: http://www.rim.com/newsroom/service-update.shtml (If I get a chance later this morning, I will embed the video to make it easier to view.)

And another update. RIM has now stated that full service has been restored. If you're still having issues, try a basic battery pull - while the device is on, simply remove the battery for 15-30 seconds, reinsert, wait for the device to reboot and you should be set. Of that's not sufficient, try the steps I wrote above.
