CES 2012 Day 3: HP, Pioneer, Sennheiser , Nokia
HP
Yes, I'm a fanboy. Whenever I see a PC logo on a screen among the sea of Macbooks at the library or coffee shop, I wonder why they do that. What I saw today, might just be changing my mind, if they could just change the guts on the inside.
The new HP Envy Spectre is enough to make any fanboy ask "O RLY?" [watch interview]
It is gorgeous. This glass ultrabook squeezes a 14" screen into a 13" body. With glass on the lid and wrist rest, it's a very elegant machine. The keyboard had me doing double takes to my Macbook Pro. Beats audio is integrated into sound system that can also wirelessly sync to speakers in your home. It's coming in the spring and if you're a PC looking for some Mac sexy, this is your machine.
PIONEER
App integration is everywhere on the CES floor, from refrigerators to televisions, so why not car radios? Pioneer unveiled the latest edition of their AppRadio that can harness the power of your iOS or Android device and bring apps to your car radio. [watch interview]
Instead of flicking between apps on your phone, which is illegal in most provinces, you can access audio streaming apps like Rdio or mapping apps or telephony through your car's dash. One of the apps even taps into your car's computer to give you diagnostic information.
SENNHEISER
Sennheiser made some great announcements at CES in their headphone line that featured a range of styles targeted at dj's and professionals. We're talking cans ranging all the way up to $1600 and more - and they're worth it. Elegant, comfortable and crystal clear pro sound.
Our chat, however, was to talk about the tiny Voice Max Bluetooth ear piece. It's a Future Shop exclusive and it's very very tiny. [watch interview]
I was also lucky enough to grab a chat with Jean Anglais, President of Sennheiser Canada. We talk about the history of the company and the future, most specifically why headphones are all the rage at this year's show and how Sennheiser is making it work for prosumers. [watch interview]
NOKIA
Many are calling the Nokia Lumia 900 the best phone on the floor at CES. But it's not coming to Canada (just yet). First in the pipe for Canadian consumers is the Nokia Lumia 710 (Rogers) and the Nokia Lumia 800 (Telus). Both are on the Windows Phone Mango platform and are gorgeous. [watch interview]
The Windows Phone platform is elegant, personalized and .. .. it's not an iPhone. (inside joke from CES 2011 ![]()
