With Thanksgiving just a couple of weeks away, it's the perfect time to transition your home from Summer to Fall by adding some cozy harvest decor. Here are three easy tips for decorating your home for the Fall / Harvest Season.
Tip #1: Create a Fall- or Harvest-Inspired 'Vignette'
In Fall, the days get cooler and shorter, and we begin to spend more time in our homes. Fall 'nesting' is all about adding warmth and comfort, physically - with things like throws and fireplaces - as well as psychologically, with cozy atmosphere-enhancing decor.
A great way to give your home some cozy autumn atmosphere is to create a Fall- or harvest- themed vignette or two in your home. What's a 'vignette', you ask? My friend and fellow home decor blogger, Beth, from Homes Stories A2Z, explains it this way: "...in decorating, a vignette is a small grouping of objects that creates a pleasing focal point and “tells a story”...and is "an affordable way to bring charm, character, and life to any space."
A core piece for almost any seasonal vignette is a vase, bowl or urn to hold seasonally-relevant elements.
In Fall, I like to place things like wheat, mini-pumpkins, twigs, leaves, or acorns in earth-toned vessels similar to these vases and bowls. The colour and texture of these pieces feels similar to objects found in nature, which is what Fall decorating is all about!
A great place to create a Fall vignette is on your fireplace mantel. A flickering fireplace is the perfect compliment to Fall / harvest decor, and creates cozy warmth against autumn's chill. With so many stylish electric fireplaces to choose from, it's easier than ever to install one in your favorite room. But if you don't have a fireplace mantel, any table-top of shelf will do perfectly!
