Do you have the right bag for back to school?

It's still an open question as to whether a laptop or paper is best for notes, but even if you don't pull out your laptop in class, chances are that you're going to be carrying it with you. To carry it you need a good bag.

My good friend Raul looks at a backpack he picked up at a Future Shop near here--Laptop bag review: Kensington Contour (Backpack Style)--and seems happy with it. Myself I am using a satchel-type bag, instead of a backpack. I used to carry backpack and then a standard shoulder bag. One of the biggest concerns you should have is the weight you're carrying in your bag and how it fits to your body.

Backpacks are probably the best choice for carrying a lot, and I carry my bag across my body to distribute the weight better, but here is something I challenge you this back to school week: carry less.

That's exactly what I had to do when I injured my shoulder last year. I couldn't carry my full-on backpack with all my camera gear. No matter how well it carried, it was still freaking heavy. I decided I needed to slim down. Yes that way as well, but in this case I mean the amount of gear I carry.

I cut down on all the extras I carried. I'm not carrying every cable known to man or enough spare parts to rebuild a MacBook or refit the Enterprise with transwarp drive. I think I can (and will) trim it down a little more tomorrow. So here's my challenge. Let's reduce the amount of stuff we carry tomorrow.

Yes, it's great to be prepared, but if you carry less you risk hurting your back less.

Now, what are you going to pull out of your bag tomorrow?
