Does Your Camera Have a Phone? 4 Must-Have iPhone Photo Apps

One of the reasons people are raving about the new iPhone 4S is because of the new camera.

iphone-camera-icon.jpg"The iPhone 4 has already surpassed every other camera out there on photo sites. We set our sites on competing with many great point and shoot cameras."

Photographer Shannon Hilton was clapping with glee during the phones unveiling when she tweeted "Yep, okay. They got me with the camera features. f2.4? on a phone?! Sweet. #apple #iPhone  great pictures in low-light. Less 'pixelly'."

Lisa Bettany did a great comparison of the improvement in imagery throughout the iPhone roster.

While the upgraded iPhone 4S camera is making waves, the iPhone 4 still has a lens that has left my Fuji point and shoot and my Panasonic Lumix FZ18 in the corner gathering dust. The ability to adjust, crop and upload my photos to a variety of destinations right from my iDevice has made me turn to my iPhone daily for shutterbugging.

Apple improved the basic camera app by now allowing cropping, alignment lines, enhancement, rotation and red eye touch up. The integration of Twitter into iOS5 now makes it simple to get your photos shared on the social web.

Here are some Photo apps you can add to get the most of your Camera that is also a phone:

Camera+ $0.99 - my default app for photosharing because of the extensive filters that are available. From lomography to HDR to classic Ansel Adams black and white and dozens in between, this app lets me edit and touch up my images seconds after taking them.

The social web is easy to access with Camera+ as well, with Facebook and Twitter sharing just a button away.

Instagram Free - the most popular photo taking app in the store. Instagram adds all the classic filters and editing that are becoming so popular and adds it's own social network into the mix.  People follow each other on Instagram and can comment and share each other's photos.  This was the first app to make smart phone photography artsy.

Hipstamatic $1.99 - Like Instagram and Camera+, Hipstamatic is built around various filters and easy social sharing of your images.  Hipstamatic goes a step further with the interface, actually changing your iPhone screen to make it look like you're using an old school camera.  The app also has many upgrades within the app to buy other lenses, bodies and filters.

Half-Tone $0.99 - This app is a way to touch up your prints after you've taken them.  The app lets you turn photos into comic book panels with graphical punches, text and colorizing.
