E3 2011: What I'm Looking Forward To

by Blogger on 06-05-2011 06:01 PM - last edited on 06-05-2011 06:19 PM

E3_logo.jpgHard to believe E3 is here once again. It doesn't seem like it was that long ago when we sported white ponchos and watched as Cirque du Soleil unveiled Kinect, or got our hands on Sony's Move for the first time. Last year's E3 was full of surprises and this year will be no different.

The Electronic Entertainment Expo is the premier gaming event where companies announce what they plan on releasing in the upcoming year. Some of the stuff we see fizzles away never to be seen from again. But most of what is unveiled becomes the fodder for video game bloggers for months to come. If you're into gaming you no doubt keep close tabs on the announcements expected this week.

We already know some of the big announcements coming down this week. Here is a list of what I'm looking forward to and hoping to see. Feel free to add your own to the list!

Kinect Games for Real Gamers

Don't get me wrong, I think Kinect is an innovative peripheral. Just like Nintendo's Wii it has lured even more people into the gaming world. That being said something is lacking; In depth games.

Kinect has become a dumping ground for developers looking to make a quick buck in the casual gaming market. Party games are certainly fun if you have a family but Microsoft has yet to tap into the hard core gamer market. Yes I know Microsoft says Kinect was never intended for true blue gamers, but it would be nice to see some more innovation from developers.

What ever happened to that Star Wars Kinect demo we saw last year? Hmmm.....

An Innovative Nintendo Console

There's no denying Nintendo thought outside the box with it's last console the Wii. People lined up to get their hands on the console which brought casual gaming to the masses and convinced many of us games don't have to be played while sitting on your butt. But the novelty quickly wore off. Nintendo only released a handful of first party titles and the system became known for its shovelware, So what does the Big N have up it's sleeve?

Reports circulating the web already confirm the new handheld will have a 6" touch screen built into the controller. I've also heard rumours the Wii 2 will have the same graphical power (if not better) of the Xbox 360 or PS3. My hope is Nintendo doesn't disappoint and simply provide an HD version of the Wii.

The console is expected to be playable on the show floor in some form or another. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Details of Sony's Playstation Vita (NGP)

Sony is cooking up an interesting press event in LA this week. The company is teasing us with a press event full of special guests and performances, but also an up close look at its next handheld. I've never been a huge fan of the PSP, probably because the game selection just wasn't there. Can Sony change my mind and the minds of many other gamers with it next generation handheld? I'm intrigued.

Is Microsoft Hiding Something?

Microsoft's press event will certainly be focused on software. After all it just launched Kinect last year. But something has me wondering if it will announce something we didn't see coming. Will it hint at the next-generation Xbox? Man I can't believe I'm already using the term next-gen already.

A New Mario Game?

Mario didn't have a big presence at E3 last year. Sure it was unveiled that he would once again appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 but other than that the plumber has been laying pretty low. Will Nintendo make a big Mario announcement this year? Here's hoping it's not just for the Nintendo 3DS which certainly needs some help in the form of strong titles.

Hands On Time with...

There are so many games I'm looking forward to playing on the show floor. Where do I begin? BioShock Infinite, Batman Arkham City, and Uncharted 3 single player (already played multiplayer) are just a few. Too many to list here.

Truth be known I do know a few of the secrets which will be announced this week. Unfortunately I can't tell you what I know. Keep checking back on the blog for all the info from this year's E3.

It all kicks off tomorrow with Microsoft's press event in the morning and the Sony's in the late afternoon! Let the fun begin!

What are you looking forward to hearing about? Let me know and I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
