We’ve already taken a quick look at the new Sony eReader PRS T2 and run down some of its hardware specifications. Today lets take a closer at this eReader and some of it’s software features.

Lets start with Evernote. The integrated Evernote software lets you take notes which get automatically added to your Evernote account. It won’t automatically download all your notes from Evernote to your eReader so you don’t have to worry about lengthy syncing. Instead it creates a Reader notebook for you in your Evernote account. From your eReader you can access anything in that notebook. You can also set the reader as your default notebook if you should so choose.

If you’re unfamiliar with Evernote its worth investigating. Its an online service that lets  you capture your ideas and virtually anything you see, hear or read and sync it to the cloud. It works on most computers, phones and tablets already and features quick search functions. The advantage here is that while you read you can quickly jot down some notes on your eReader and have those notes automatically available on your PC, or wherever. Once you have your account entered in the setup dialog you can even simply highlight a passage of text, tap ‘send to’ then tap ‘Evernote’ and  you’re done. If like me you read a lot of non-fiction, you’ll find this feature a big selling point.

This eReader also features Facebook integration that works just as easily as Evernote. You can just tap and hold a word to highlight it, drag to highlight more, then just tap ‘send to’ and ‘Facebook’. You’ll  be asked to confirm the highlighted words and for your own optional commentary in a preview screen before it actually posts anything. Now if you just tap ‘post’ you’ll find your excerpt and commentary automatically beamed over to your Facebook wall.

You can also post your book collection information to Facebook. A collection is a custom set of books or documents that you create yourself from what's on your eReader. Its a personal way to aggregate content that can help you keep organized. To post your collection to Facebook you go to your collection, press the menu button, and tap ‘post to Facebook’.

There are a lot of eReaders out there and it can be tough to tell them apart. With the Sony PRS T2 eReader the Facebook and Evernote integration really are that stars that make them a bit more unique.  If you’re collaborating with others, or using your eReader for any kind of reference, these features can make a big difference. They’re easy and intuitive to use and quick to access so you won’t be fumbling around to get it to happen. In fact I dare to say that its easier and more useful  than keeping a paper notebook and pen by your side.
