Essential Accessories for the PlayStation Move

Amidst other motion control peripherals like the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect, Sony offers a very intriguing addition to the motion control family: PlayStation Move.  While the PlayStation Move looks very similar to Nintendo's Wii Remote, the Move adds a whole new dimension to motion control technology.

The colourful ball at the end of the remote isn't just for looks; in fact, that ball provides what Sony calls the "zero point", an absolute location for data to travel to.  Instead of simply an approximation of your location, the Move pinpoints exactly where that is, thus offering a much more acute performance than the Wii's sensor bar.

Of course, Sony's Eye Toy camera, which captures all of your movements, needs some work but in terms of precision Move is on the ball (no pun intended).  If you're looking for max-precision in your motion control peripheral and don't mind using a remote for your interactive experience then consider checking it out.

These are my personal picks for Move accessories, but feel free to voice your opinions and suggestions in the comments section below.

Sony PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter - $39.99

CTA Digital Perfect Aim Pistol Combo for PlayStation Move - $25.99

Honourable Mention: MOVE Precision 3 Pistol

If you're looking for an accessory best suited for co-op gun-based Move titles, this Pistol Combo might be right up your alley.  The Move controller fits in without too much trouble, although it's certainly not a snug fit, and offers exact precision for your most heated moments in combat.  The body of each pistol is light and easy to use and handle without ever feeling janky.  Despite the flaw, it's by far one of the better pistol controllers for the Move. However, if you're determined to find one of the best, you've gotta check out the MOVE Precision 3 by Interworks Unlimited.  Future Shop doesn't carry this sleek looking little gun, but it's definitely worth snagging if you do find it.

SKU: 10203620

Looking for some fun and futuristic handguns to accompany those two-player gun-based Move games? Look no further than the CTA Digital Perfect Aim Pistol Combo for PlayStation Move. The sleek and elegant design features stylish orange and red highlights and a smooth matte finish. The bodies are also made of an extremely lightweight material, making them more comfortable to handle.

I would second the recommendations for the Navigation Controller and the charging station.  Those two are must-haves.

You could use the regular controller instead of the Navigation Controller, but it is pretty hard to balance in one hand while you are holding the Move in the other.

The charging station is beautiful, and it also saves space!  It can hold your controllers upright so they don't look as messy on the countertop.  They also plug into the wall.  It's an extra outlet, but it also means your controllers are ready to go when you power-up your PS3 and you don't need to leave your PS3 on to charge them.

I also own the Sharp Shooter accessory, but don't play it as much.  Looks pretty cool though.

The Playstation Move is an awesome controller.  Way more accurate than the Kinect or the Wiimote.  It is a true gamer's accessory because of its pinpoint accuracy and response time.  There is nothing worse as a gamer than not having your moves registered by the console.  That, and having a response time delay from your moves to the actual game.  It makes some games totally unplayable.

Now all we need are more decent games using the Playstation Move.  The best ones I've seen so far are LITTLE BIG PLANET and HEAVY RAIN.  Haven't tried SORCERY.

Sorcery was fun, but it really should have come out sooner to make an impact on the Move - like at or shorly after launch. It is very short too, You can play through and platinum the whole thing in one 5 - 6 hour session, so basically no lasting playability. Worth picking up out of the $10 bin in a few months :smileyhappy:

I agree that stylistically and functionally (in and of itself) the Move is great, but Sony really dropped the ball on offering properly developed software for it. There are a few examples of fun applications, but 90% of the time it was just shoehorned in as an afterthought into games that didn't really need it.

I doubt Wonderbook is going to fix that either. So many of us saw it as little more than a 15 minute buzz-kill in the middle of Sony's E3 conference. Basically we're less than 2 years from a console cycle and Sony is throwing up a half-hearted hail mary to try and make this thing relevant...

I totally agree, debaser17, Sorcery probably should have been released sooner considering the impact it could have had on buyers.

It's not too late for Sony to ramp things up with the Move, but as weeks and months go by it's easy to lose a little bit of hope.  I want to stay as optimistic about this peripheral as you, Atomic, I really do.

I think it's going to be awhile until motion control peripherals reach their fullest potential.  There's a lot to admire and it gives me hope for future peripherals.  Let's hope these companies don't lose hope too soon, there are so many possibilites to consider.
