FUJIFILM's F800EXR get Wi-Fi, smart new Camera Applicatio n for transfer and tagging.
Fujifilm’s F800EXR is coming to Future Shop with a cool new feature: Wireless Image transfer that’s smarter than ever before.
The F800EXR looks a lot like the F750; same compact shape, same great 20x optical zoom. It has the same soft-touch finish, with a 3” screen, and 1080p video recording. The difference is that the F800EXR is now WiFi enabled.
Fujifilm previously released an App that worked with both iOS and Android phones and tablets. The old app, called FUJIFILM Photo Receiver did pretty much exactly that: you’d pair it with your Wi-Fi enabled Fujifilm camera, and transfer pictures from the camera to your phone. Not exactly rocket surgery.
The new app is a whole lot smarter, and it works great with the F800! The icon may look similar, but it’s a whole new app under the hood. Called “FUJIFILM Camera Application” (they really need to hire a copywriter with more zing. I’m free on weekends, Fujifilm, call me) the app presents you with four tiles:
- Receive
- Browse Camera
- Geotagging
- Tell a Friend
While you’ll probably never use the fourth tile, the first three are incredibly useful. You can still transfer your images like you have in the past, but now you can actually browse your images right on the camera, without having to download them first. After you pair the camera and your phone or tablet, you’re ready to go, browsing at high speed and viewing the pictures on your phone or tablet’s screen. Tablet owners will be particularly impressed with the ability to browse on a larger screen on-demand.
The last tile really needs some love: geotagging. The F750 didn’t have GPS, something that I like in my cameras. The problem with GPS is that it really burns batter if you leave it on, and can be blocked relatively easily by concrete overhands or by going inside. By using your phone or your tablet as your GPS source, it’s using GPS, but also the A-GPS feature that can help geo-locate your shots using assisted GPS and Skyhook. Long story short: The F800EXR gives you GPS when you want it, without wasting battery. It’s the best of both worlds.
The F800EXR will be coming to Future Shop soon, so if you’re looking for a great camera from Fujifilm that connects in a whole new way, this is it!
