Are you a BlackBerry owner? If so, you'll be happy to hear that RIM has finally released a major update to their Facebook app. Along with an updated UI, BlackBerry users finally get Facebook Chat functionality and more. And if you have a BlackBerry PlayBook, RIM has also released an update that brings a number of new features.

Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0

Although RIM has had a Facebook app for some time for BlackBerry smartphones, it's been a fairly limited app for some time.  Users had long asked for features like Facebook Chat, an updated UI and more.  Well, I'm happy to say, RIM has listened and provided a nice update to the Facebook app.

The first thing you'll notice is the updated interface. The app looks much cleaner, is easier to navigate and has a great new menu screen. For those who have used the Facebook app on other platforms, this shares a lot of similarities.

Another great new feature is Facebook Chat.  Many users rely on Facebook Chat to keep in touch with their friends.  You can choose whether you want to be online or offline, and it's easy to start and switch conversations.  For those who are fans of Facebook Places, RIM has also included that functionality (I believe that was in version 1.9 though), along with several other features.

Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0

For those with BlackBerry PlayBooks, you can now also download the Facebook for BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 update. This update adds Facebook Places to your PlayBook and integrates with the Bing! Maps app for directions and location.  Two complaints from the last version was a lack of ability to view Facebook Events and the ability to view who "liked" a user's post.  Well, you can now do both and more.  Hardcore Facebook users should be much happier now.  And for those who are concerned about privacy, even better news!  You can now control who sees your status updates from within the app.

All in all, RIM has made a lot of positive improvements in these two apps.  You can see it for yourselves by downloading the updates from BlackBerry App World.
