Fallout: New Vegas Announcement

Fallout: New Vegas

For those of you who had the great pleasure of playing through Fallout 3, you've probably been anticipating when Bethesda would make an announcement on the release of a follow up game.  Well wait no longer as today, Bethesda Softworks officially announced that Fallout: New Vegas would be released this coming Fall 2010.

Fallout: New Vegas is currently being developed at Obsidian Entertainment for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.  This is very exciting news for me because I was so enthralled by Fallout 3 and the rich gaming experience it provided.  Everything from character development, gameplay, targeting mechanics and overall production was top notch in quality and execution.  Naturally I have the same high hopes and expectations that Fallout: New Vegas will deliver a similar and possibly greater gaming experience.  Even the teaser trailer itself, which can be seen below, brought a big ol' anxious grin to my face.  Oh Bethesda, how you like to tease me.

Make sure to keep your eyes and ears on full alert in February as Bethesda has promised a lot more news and details on the game.  For more details on Fallout: New Vegas, you can check out the Fallout website.

I'm really excited for this game and hope that it at least meets the experience of Fallout 3.  Bethesda is not making this game in-house; rather, they outsourced to Obsidian Entertainment, makers of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and the forthcoming espionage RPG Alpha Protocol.

Fallout 3 was my 2008 Game of the Year, and the GOY for the entire NextGen Player staff, the game was simply incredible with its immersive gameplay, rich landscape and utterly engrossing storyline.  Really, I would peg Fallout 3 as my "game of this generation", it's simply that memorable.

Let's hope Obsidian brings the goods this fall, I for one can't wait.

I absolutely loved Fallout 3.  The way the game played, the elements to and the DLC was simply fantastic.  Its presentation made me feel like I was actually in a nuclear wasteland and I really felt connected to my character in a way that I've never seen from any other RPG I have ever played.

That was why when I heard about Fallout: New Vegas I started to drool (metaphorically).  Given the reputation of Knights of the Old Republic and the trend from the past of games that were outsourced by Bethesda (Oblivion comes to mind - outsourced to 2K Games), I can only see great things coming from this release.
