Fat Mega Man A Sony-Exclu sive For Street Fighter X Tekken
Hello hello chaps,
Now Erika did a wee write-up of some prevously-announced Street Fighter X Tekken characters recently, and I promise we're not going to block your feed up with the likely constant and piecemeal reveals of each new character that comes, but gotta say that the characters they've just announced as Sony-exclusives are pretty... weird? Maybe even offensive, really? Yeah...
The characters join the prevously-announced Cole (from Unfamous), and they are:
- Namco's mascot and everyone's favourite yellow dot-eater, Pac-Man!
- Toro and Kuro, Sony's mascots, but you'd only know who they are if you live in Japan, where Toro appeared in, like, 1999 with the almost-completely-forgotten Pocketstation accessory.
- And... A fat Mega Man! Capcom's once beloved character who, since Keiji Inafune left the company and they cancelled Mega Man Legends 3, they've been doing their best to DESTROY.
OK, so that last one is histronics, but... come on. We all love Mega Man, right? And did you see the picture above? I know, it's all very "funny" and based (apparently) on the horrible box art for the first Mega Man on the NES (see it here) but is a joke like this really so funny it has to be a whole character in a game?
I think it's entirely possible to argue I'm being humourless, but something about him just rubs me up the wrong way, expecially when you see how fun and lovingly treated Pac-Man is in the trailer:
Obviously Mega Man will survive this--I mean, I don't worry about that--but when you think of Capcom expanding their efforts on a joke character rather than letting the creator of that character finish a game that everybody wants (Mega Man Legends 3) It's just galling, eh?
In fact, I'm kind of annoyed that this game looks pretty good otherwise, no? Sigh.
Street Fighter X Tekken will release for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 6 in North America and March 9 across Europe with PlayStation Vita and PC versions to follow; but of course, you can only "enjoy" these characters if you get the PS3 or Vita version...
