Future Shop Announces Midnight Openings for Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Future Shop has announced that all of their stores nationwide will open early for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the latest entry in the blockbuster Activision franchise.
There will be 120 Future Shop locations across Canada opening their doors at 11:59pm on Monday, November 12, including the flagship stores in Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton. Stores in Quebec and Sudbury will be opening early at 8:00am local time on Tuesday, November 13, the official release date of the game.
Special launch parties will be held at three Future Shop locations on Monday, November 12, at 9:00pm local time:
- Downtown Toronto (325 Yonge St., at Dundas)
- South Edmonton Common (1320 99th St., at Parsons Rd. NW)
- Downtown Vancouver (798 Granville St., at Robson)
Customer that attend one of the above midnight opening events will have the opportunity to enter into a draw for an LG home theatre package consisting of a 47” Smart Cinema 3D LED TV with dual play feature, and a 5.1 Channel Blu-ray Home Theatre system ($1,600 approximate retail value). Midnight buyers at these locations may also receive Call of Duty swag (limited quantities) and a free digital copy of the movie Zombieland through CinemaNow (limit 10 per store). Furthermore, LG and Future Shop street teams will be on-site at the downtown Vancouver and South Edmonton Common launch events, offering customers a chance to play Call of Duty: Black Ops II early, and in 3D.
For some time now, the perennial Call of Duty series has been setting new entertainment sales records year-after-year – eclipsing movies and music launches – and Activision believes that Black Ops II “has the potential to be [the] biggest selling game of all time.” (source: Seeking Alpha via CVG)
The publisher went on to say that "pre-orders for Black Ops II continued to track ahead of Modern Warfare 3, which is no small feat given that MW3's was the most successful pre-order program of all time."
Future Shop has been on a midnight madness roll as of late, having just come off big launches for World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria and the Xbox exclusive Halo 4. Footage and photos of these past launch events can be found here:
