As the madness of Boxing Day is now upon us, you have more than one day to shop for the best deals, and keeping tabs on those sales is made a little easier with Future Shop’s new mobile site. Get used to it because mobile sites optimized for smartphones and tablets are going to be part of future shopping experiences.

Taking Future Shop as an example, the regular site itself may function just fine on its own, but the mobile site shortens the line to get to what you’re looking for and simplifies the content.

For example, if you’re looking for only items that are on sale, it’s a simple tap on the site’s main page. Filter the results further by looking for computers and software and then again by seeing what’s specific to online, in-store and even what’s on clearance.

With the sales going on this week, you might come across a real gem in the mix. Of course, timing is everything, and the quantities listed on the site might not be changed fast enough to reflect the craziness of this week, but at least you get an idea of what’s available and where.

Chances are, you’ll have your smartphone with you anyway, so why not use it as a tool to shop in a smarter way? After all, mobile versions of news sites use the same concept — easy and quick access to stories and images by putting the most timely and relevant stuff at the forefront. Eventually, we’ll probably be able to tailor these sites to push the types of stories we actually want.

Shopping aid apps like ShopWise, ShopCatch and Shop To It use the same premise, except the focus is on finding deals at various retailers. In the case of walking around a big box retailer like Future Shop, it’s not a bad idea to use the mobile site to your advantage. It’s like strolling through aisles holding a flyer in your hand.

Give it a try and see if it works for you in finding a good deal you might not have found otherwise.
