Futuristic Appliance: Think you left your oven on? Get your phone to turn it off

AGA iTotal Control “Oh no. I forgot to turn off the oven.” At this point, you are not conveniently close to your home. Or you can’t remember if you actually did turn it off. It’s a worrying feeling that you’d want to brush off with immediate relief.

Essentially, you can interact with your oven using a mobile application, which resembles the control panel of the oven.  Say you want to turn on the oven and pre-bake at 350 degree, you put that request into the mobile app, it sends a message to your smart oven. You’ll receive confirmation message on whether the request has been approved or denied.

This device receives the remote messages from the phone’s app, direct texts or website and transmits them to the AGA. The oven must be placed in an area to receive reliable Wi-Fi connectivity.  It seems a bit tricky but the kicker is that the price tag on this bad boy is approx. 10,000 GDP.  As you guessed it, the product is only available in the UK.

It’s fascinating to learn about the relationship between home appliances and mobile technology. For the case of AGA iTotal, this integration has taken a new (and extraordinary) level. If I look into my crystal ball, I can only loosely predict that we’ll see this technological advance happen more in the future. Plus, it’ll be affordable as oven manufactures begin to integrate this technology. I’m saying about 5 – 10 years. What do you think? Sooner or later?
