Game News Round-up: Storming
This week in game news we've got your usual lot: announcements, DLC, collector's editions, trailers... you know, game news!
- Ubisoft has revealed FPS Shootmania Storm. Technically this has... sort of been revealed already because the company and developer Nadeo had announced as part of their "ManiaPlanet", er, thingy they would be doing an FPS in the style of TrackMania 2, but I suppose this is the most concrete idea of what it's going t be yet... and there still aren't many details other than "ShootMania Storm will also feature extensive map editing capabilities, allowing players to customise, design and share their creations across the community, using the soon to be released, upgraded ManiaPlanet 2.0 gaming system."
An open beta is planned, so for more information keep your eyes on the site. Looks a bit generic so hopefully there's a lot more to it than that image.
- Activision has announced the Prototype 2 "Blackwatch Collector's Edition." Planned to launch on the same day as Prototype 2 (April 24th) the collector's edition should come in at $79.99 and will feature:
- • PROTOTYPE 2 RADNET Edition Content
- • Free PROTOTYPE 2 DLC Pack #1 – Colossal Mayhem
- • Official PROTOTYPE 2 Soundtrack CD
- • Exclusive PROTOTYPE 2 Hardbound Art Book
- • Dark Horse Digital Comic “PROTOTYPE: The Labrinth”
- • 20% Discount Voucher at PROTOTYPE Merchandise Store
Hmm. A 20% off voucher for some merch? That's not so great, is it? Sort of... cheesy to include that, or to bullet-point it. But well, it does at least include the first DLC free? Becoming less convinced with these collector's editions as time goes by, though.
- The final four Street Fighter X Tekken characters have been confirmed! They are, from Street Fighter, M. Bison and Akuma (oh, well... pretty obvious we guess) and from Tekken, Jin and Ogre. So a couple of characters from Tekken 3 there then.
Capcom has anlso announced the release date for the PC version: May 11th. That's... well it's a bit of a wait after the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 launch on March 6th. They also promise more details on the announced PlayStation Vita version "in the near future."
- In the "DLC of dubious interest" files we've got three new tracks for Rock Band from... Megadeth. That's Symphony of Destruction (pro guitar and bass), À Tout le Monde, and Public Enemy No. 1. All out on February 21st. And for Disney Universe, you can get a Phineas and Ferb level pack for $4.99 right now. That's actually a bit better than the costumes they've been releasing up till now, and Phineas and Ferb is pretty good, right? I mean... it's no Adventure Time, but it's ok for a Disney show. Sorta.
- Square Enix released a new shooter for iOS recently: Dariusburst Second Prologue. It costs an admittedly eye-watering $10.99, but it's worth mentioning the game is an updated version ofa game that originally appeared on PSP, including a new "remixed" mode that includes two new boss battles originally included in the arcade follow-up to Dariusburst, Dariusburst Another Chronicle. It's got full retina graphics as well. To be honest though, as much as I'd like to play it, $10.99 does seem a bit rich for my blood. Maybe it'll go on sale some time... It won't reach a dollar, no, but maybe...
- Let's close out with a trailer. Here's the first gameplay trailer for Trials Evolution, the sequel to the maddeningly addictive Trials HD:
It's due this spring.
