Gears of War 3's Fenix Risen

Right, well, let's hope I don't mess this one up, eh? It's been out since Tuesday but worth noting that the third major game add-on for Gears of War 3 has been released, and it features five spectacular new maps "inspired by the life and experiences of Marcus Fenix," which makes it sound like he's a real guy or something. Like he's... Napoleon or someone.

The add-on also introduces four new character skins and a new experience system that allows players to rank up through level 100 four times to unlock exclusive emblems and weapon skins. So basically prestiging from Call of Duty then?

Basically, players  With the purchase of the add-on, players who attain level 100 will have a choice to "Re-up" where their experience and rank will be reset, but all other progression (including TrueSkill rating) will remain intact. Players can Re-up up to three times, earning a new wings color each time: Red, Green, and Gold. The rank number will also be coloured Red, Green, or Blue. Each Re-up level also awards the player an exclusive, custom weapon skin that cannot be obtained by any other means.

I sort of totally can't imagine playing the game long enough to reach level 100 FOUR TIMES but, you know, maybe you can. And after all, they are adding five new maps to the game with this update: Academy, Anvil, Depths, Escalation, and the Slab. And there's the new character skins: Recruit Clayton, Thrashball Cole - Limited Edition, Savage Marauder and Savage Kantus - Limited Edition for use in Versus Multiplayer and Horde Mode.

I'm not really sure what the deal is with the Limited Edition tags, though. Isn't this add-on going to be... always available?

Ah; anyway. The add on is your usual 800 points, but if you've got the Season Pass, well you get it as part of that 2400 points you already stumped up. Happy with your purchase?

Quite happy with my season pass purchase. Though I would be more excited about this add-on if my stats had not been reset randomly back before Christmas. Lost my then current level 100 (with over 1 000 000 extra experience), over 20 onyx medals and every ribbon the game had to offer.  Needless to say I was not happy with my Christmas present from Epic and Microsoft, and since both groups blame the other for the problem, no help nor compensation was given for my lost time and effort. Oh well, such is life, and despite being without an Xbox for three of the last four weeks, I am currently a level 22 again and am slowly working my way back up. Looking forward to seeing the new maps and playing as the Marauder.
