Summify, one of Bootup Labs’ success stories, made its mark by helping us focus our info storm with up to 10 top stories from culled from your Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader accounts. When I reviewed it for The Next Web last October, Summify focused on giving you something like a fast newsreader. Now, after tweaking, tuning, and feedback, Summify will give you 5-10 top stories up to four times a day. While getting a quick hit of news on your laptop is great, I think having it on the go might in fact be more useful. Hence, Summify has released a free app for iOS.
I got an early heads up that the app was coming down the pike and took a quick look at it. Quick is all you really need to get the hang of the app, since simplicity is the watch-word of the entire service. When you have a new summary (up to four times a day), you get a little notification that your articles are ready (you can also get an email and direct message on Twitter). Then just look at the articles, who within your social media sphere of influence shared the posts, and reshare it yourself. Simple, easy straightforward.
In all honesty, I hadn’t been using Summify of late with the new 5-10 article focus. I found that by the time I saw the articles in Summify I had already seen the articles through other sources. However, it just so happens that I’ve been pretty busy lately and not able to keep up with news and happenings as much as I usually do and I’ve found getting a few “here are some things that are popular within your social network” headlines is just what I need to feel like I’m staying in touch.
For the news junkie I suggest setting Summify to 10 posts 4 times a day. I have mine set to email and DM me, which I’m finding just a wee bit excessive.
The only thing I’m hoping that Summify adds soon is Google+ (as I’m sure they are aware), but getting news from Twitter, Facebook, and my RSS feeds pulled into a nice, neat package is something pretty awesome. Will I be keeping closer tabs on it now? You bet. Is it all because of the iOS app? Partially. The app brought Summify back to my attention and now I can check updates articles more easily on the go.
Pretty good I’d say.
