Get Your eBooks At the eLibrary
The price of digital content always amazes me.
If you look at the sticker price for a paperback and the cost to buy the digital edition - they're the same. The digital edition doesnt have manufacturing costs, shipping or retail costs - it's just a series of bits and bytes. Yet it's $15 to buy an eBook and $15 to buy a paperback.
It doesnt make sense. So why not get the media you want, for free, legally?
If you just got an eReader for Christmas, you can check out eBooks from the library, right from your device as easily as you can buy them from the online stores with one difference - at the library, the books are free.
The Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto public libraries use a system called Overdrive to manage their content. It's not the most user friendly interface I've ever encountered, but because you're just borrowing the book, heavy digital rights management are placed upon the ebooks and audio files.
Not all books are available on all platforms and when you're sorting through the offerings you'll have to make sure the book you're taking out is compatible with your system. (It took me hours to figure out that because an audio file is iPod compatible, it's not necessarily Mac compatible.)
The best part about borrowing ebooks and audio books from an online library is not having to worry about returning the books and incurring late fines. When your borrowing time is up, the file simply self destructs.
Check out your local library to see if it's ebook and audiobook friendly before you wander the digital aisles of the online book stores, I bet you can find what you're looking for for free.
catch the buzz ... pass it on.
