Google rolls out Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. update for Nexus devices
If you have the Galaxy Nexus smartphone or the Nexus 7 tablet, you’ll like the latest update Google released for Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2. It’s not a major change but it does make for a better experience that you would appreciate. It also sheds light on just how effective it would be if Google managed all updates for all Android devices.
This update is best described as being incremental but it still carries some importance, not least of which because it allows Nexus devices to be used in landscape mode from the home screen. Seems like a little thing, doesn’t it? Well, it kind of isn’t once you start getting used to it. In some ways, it’s almost like using a different tablet or phone.
If you have the Nexus 7 tablet, you may have already seen the prompt come up on your screen and initiated the update. If you haven’t seen that, check for it in the Settings, and if you still don’t see it, count on it rolling out to you really soon.
As mentioned, the update isn’t really major, but it finally lets you orient the home screen in landscape instead of being stuck in portrait. You might also notice a smoother all-around experience when using it.
For now, it seems that Galaxy Nexus phones aren’t receiving the update but that’s probably only a matter of time. Once the international model gets it, it flows out everywhere else from there. The Nexus S is also said to be getting the update as well.
With rumours of a 32GB version of the Nexus 7 still going, the timing for this couldn’t be better. Here’s hoping that all future Android updates could be this smooth and efficient.
The long-awaited Google-created Nexus 7 tablet has arrived and it's everything you expected it to be and more. The 7-inch Corning glass display features a high resolution that's perfect for HD video and gaming. A 10-hour battery life means you're in for the long haul. And new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean works alongside an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor to deliver unsurpassed performance.
