Have You Backed Up Today?

backup-plan.jpgSometimes I feel like a dental hygenist reminding people to floss, but every 6 months or so, I find it necessary to get on here and bang the backup monkey.

I've told you about Backupify, an automated system that backs up your cloud files.

I've told you about Carbonite, a great cloud backup that works in the background constantly archiving your system.

I've told you about external drives, physical copies and all sorts of different ways to make sure you never lose your important data.

So here it goes again.

Back it up. Please.

If all that other stuff seems complicated, let me toss another easy option your way. Try emailing your important files to BackupElf, the site handles the rest.

The site launched today and backing up photos, or documents, programs or anything is as easy as attaching to file to an email you send to save@backupelf.com.  Any email program works and you can use it from any device, which makes it a handy way to back up files you're working on remotely (say from an iPad, Blackberry or iPhone)

Here's the catch: it's a paid service.  You can get 100MB of backup for free, 1-10 gigs of storage will be $5 - $20 a month.

For those rates, I'm still on board with Carbonite as a preferred backup system.  It's less than $5 a month for unlimited storage, it's automatic and it works in the background.

Regardless, the more backup options there are the better, since you're more likely to find one that fits your use case.

catch the buzz ... pass it on.

I too believe in backups.... I like Drobo's drive redundancy, especially when my backups are in the terrabytes.

I also use Norton Ghost 15 to grab an image of my drives.
