As I'm sure all of you know one of the most fun and addicting aspects of the Pokémon series is catching and collecting pokémon. With the Pokedex up to a whopping (and slightly overwhelming) 649 you need every opportunity you can get to catch 'em all.  One of the most notable mythical pokémon to be announced for the upcoming Pokémon Black and White Version 2 is Genesect, a Bug-Steel type that's only available for a limited time.  Set on catching this rare pokémon?  It's easier than you think.

As long as you purchase Pokémon Black or White Version 2 before November 12, you can connect to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and receive Genesect through a free, limited time distribution.  With Black and White 2 to be released October 7, it pays to buy it early.

“Not only can players dive into a brand new adventure on Oct. 7 with Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2, they also can receive an incredible new Pokémon right off the bat,” said Ron Bertram, Nintendo of Canada’s vice-president and general manager. “This limited-time distribution will get players off to a great start with what is sure to be one of 2012’s biggest games.”

So what exactly does Genesect have to offer?  Well, it has the ability to adjust its power levels based on the foe it's battling. After checking out one of my favourite Pokémon resources Serebii.net I found out the true nature of this ability. Basically, Genesect's attack is increased when the foe’s Defense is lower than its Special Defense.  As an alternative Genesect can increase its Special Attack when the foe’s Special Defense is lower than its Defense.  In addition, depending upon the Drive (items found within the game: Shock Drive, Burn Drive, Chill Drive, Douse Drive) it's holding, Genesect's Techno Blast move can change elements.

Being a Red/Blue and Gold/Silver veteran myself, it's a little crazy to see the Dex grow to such a degree.  Even so, I'm sure my pokémon catching roots will resurface yet again.  Stay tuned for a detailed preview and review of this exciting new installment in the Pokémon universe in the coming weeks!

Pokémon Black and White Version 2 will be available October 7 and are playable in 2D on both the Nintendo DS and 3DS.  You can pre-order it at Future Shop too!

I was in my mid-teens when the Pokemon explosion happened and preferred more mature fare like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, so now that I'm in my 30's I'm glad I gave the franchise a second try with Pokemon Black & White -- turns out I'm quite the Pokemaniac.  I'm pretty excited about ver. 2 coming out, though I do wish it was on the Nintendo 3DS.  At least it's playable on my 3DS in 2D mode! :smileyhappy:

It's a little weird having a sequel, especially since it's the first time this is being done, but I am still so excited about it.  I really can't wait to grind and farm...it's a serious problem hahaha
