gopro-hd-hero2-.jpgIf you have a relative or friend that fancies him or herself something of a daredevil, then you might want to consider giving them the ultimate method to capture their outdoor adventures — a wearable HD camera like the GoPro HD Hero2.

The Hero2 follows up on the excellent GoPro HD, which was reviewed by yours truly last year, and takes things to another level with better low-light shooting, a mini-HDMI output directly on the camera and a proper LCD interface.

As you might expect with a wearable camera, this can be fixed onto a helmet, a jacket, an arm, a leg, a bicycle, even the dash of a car. Where the creativity goes in terms of placement is entirely up to the recipient of such an amazing gift. The camera shoots in 1080p HD, so birds-eye footage will look incredibly detailed on a big screen. Imagine wearing this on a roller coaster, or during zip-lining. How about riding a motorcycle at over 100km/h with the camera on the handlebar? Why not take it skiing or snowboarding?

The person who loves doing any, and all of these things, is the ideal candidate for this camera. Even if they unwrap the box and think that this exercise in daredevil vanity is a bit much, they’ll be singing a different tune once they strap it in and start shooting.

In fact, if they really are that vain, they can use the Live Streaming option in the camera to broadcast on the Web through a computer or tablet. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that the Hero2 can snap still photos as high as 11-megapixels too. It supports up to 32GB SD memory cards, which comes in handy for shooting at the highest resolution. With a faster image processor and lens, the quality will easily impress.

At $349.99, the GoPro HD Hero2 isn’t a cheap gift, but that’s the point. You get a pretty highly respected gizmo here. If the price range is a bit high, you can opt for the cheaper GoPro Hero, currently on sale for $169.99 till November 15.
