We’ve all been there. You’re on the go and it would be amazing to have internet access on one of your WiFi enabled gadgets but alas you only have internet access through your mobile phone. A lot of people don’t even realize there are a few ways around this pesky problem to let them enjoy full wireless internet wherever they are.

Both Telus and Rogers offer mobile internet solutions at Future Shop. Most of these are USB dongles that just plug into your notebook computer and connect you directly to the web. That alone is pretty handy, particularly for business users who do a lot of travel or students working from a variety of locations. It means you never have to worry about being without full internet access on your computer wherever you are, so long as the carrier’s signal can reach you.

Rogers even has a nifty mobile hotspot that connects via LTE so you can connect up to eight different WiFi clients simultaneously and enjoy great speeds. All of that, and it's only about the size of a smartphone. So even if you have gadgets without USB ports there are still options out there for you to let you get online while travelling. If you have a WiFi Tablet, handheld video game, camera, or even a printer it's as easy to make sure you never have to suffer an offline existence.

Now you don’t have to worry about hunting down coffee shops, libraries and all other potential sources for free WiFi connections. Public internet can be spotty at best, and is hardly reliable. You don’t always want to entrust strange networks either, as you never know who's listening. Now you can work and play wherever you go, enjoying internet access on all your devices without compromise. If you have a gadget with USB or WiFi, you can now get online from anywhere your mobile carrier's signal can reach you.

Another thing about public wifi (ie hotels), is how busy they can get with streaming video and skype users.  A personal hotspot is so much more reliable.

Within Canada my Telus Blackberry has a hotspot feature which does all this already.

When travelling in the states, I really like Roam Mobility's Liberty hotspot.  Just make sure there's coverage on where I'm travelling.
