IK Multimedia's release of the iRig Mic and the IKlip Mini (I will be publishing a review on these products within the next couple of days, until then check out Tris' great reviews here and here ) proved itself to be an immediate success to musicians, podcasters and journalists alike.  Since then, IK has been working on the ultra-compact standard Core MIDI interface iRig MIDI and the accompanying application SampleTank for iOS. Both are sure to be more great additions to this intriguing line.

The iRig MIDI connects to MIDI controllers, drum machines, drum pads, pedal boards and many more to any iOS device with total ease.  The iRig MIDI is the only compact iOS MIDI interface sporting 3 MIDI ports (In/Out/Thru) and each port will connect to any standard MIDI jacks using the included 2x1.6m/5.2" cables.  This MIDI interface also sports 2 LEDs for displaying the MIDI activity on the In/Out ports and exclusively provides a micro USB port, cables included, that connects to any standard USB power supply source so that the iOS device can stay fully powered during long sessions.

If that weren't enough, the iRig MIDI comes with the pro-quality sound module, SampleTank. Originally released for Mac and PC, the leading virtual sound workstation will soon be available for your favourite iOS mobile device and boasts a soundset with over 900MB of samples for over 400 acoustic, electric and electronic instruments as well as 20 studio quality insert effects that can be applied to each individual instrument.

In addition, SampleTank can also be used as a multi-timbral module to playback instruments on 4 channels simultaneously. Single instruments and multi-timbral operation can be used at the same time so you can, for example, play back two instrument from a MIDI sequence, play a lead instrument from an external MIDI keyboard and then back it with a fourth instrument from the mini keyboard built right into the app. And you can also quickly adjust volume and effect send levels for each instrument all from a single window. Looking for a easier ways to layer your musical composition or just looking for a particularly sound to use? SampleTank will help you with all of these and more.

Both the iRig MIDI and SampleTank app make music creation a breeze with their easy, intuitive functions and clean look and feel.  These products are not necessarily a must for musicians, but will take away a lot of time and pressure in the process, so they're definitely an asset to have.  IK Multimedia is doing a great job of creating high-quality products at such competitive prices.  I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this product so expect a review for it very soon.

Below is a video showcasing just what the iRig MIDI and SampleTank app can do:

While I know it's called the iRig, I wonder if IK plans to offer something for Android phones & Tablets too - perhaps the aRig?

I wasn't serious about aRig :smileyhappy: - I just think that its amusing that if you stick 'i' in front of any tech products name it automatically becomes something for the ipod/pad/phone

We have an Android team in place but Android OS's latency isn't up to par yet. As soon as google gets that fixed we're there. Til then we're sticking with iOS. :smileyhappy:
