It only controls everything. PlayStation®Move is coming.

by Blogger on 03-11-2010 01:08 PM - last edited on 05-03-2012 04:11 PM by Moderator

Sony has announced their definitive play in the motion control gameplay market with the brand new PlayStation®Move. Combining advanced motion control sensors, a dynamically colour-changing sphere, vibration feedback, and familiar PlayStation® buttons, the Move offers an incredibly accurate representation of movement. An internal 3-axis gyroscope, terrestrial magnetic field sensor, and integration with the PlayStation® Eye let the Move detect absolute positions in 3D space. Long story short: you've never seen motion control like this.

The setup connects with Bluetooth® wireless (outside of the PlayStation® Eye) and features the same DUALSHOCK®3 and SIXAXIS control we're used to. Rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries will keep you gaming for longer, and will charge over and over via USB. The advanced motion control sensors in the controller track both fast and subtle movements, far better than stock motion control found in other systems.

You can use up to four PlayStation®Move controllers with a single PS3 system, and pair them up with Playstation Move sub-controllers to offer even more immersion. This wireless component frees up both hands to get into the action, and offers analog stick control, as well as additional buttons to help really capture the Move experience.

By adding the PlayStation® Eye into the mix, the PlayStation®Move system presents its trump card. Capturing video at up to 120 frames per second, and integrating a microphone for a full body and full voice experience. Move delivers on the promise of motion control and motion capture in a single system; it truly does do everything.

PlayStation®Move is coming to Future Shop this Fall. Pricing has yet to be announced, but one thing is for sure: PlayStation®Move is going to change the way that you play.

How involved will the PS move be? I mean will i be able to be play games like Modern Ware Fare 2, UFC 2009, God of war 3, Street Fighters IV.... with it? Im not big on family gaming.. i dont know if this will be worth it?

by Dennosan(anon) on 03-12-2010 06:59 AM

If Sony does this right, there goes the Wii

by Exalted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-12-2010 07:22 AM

I wonder what the MOVE price tag would be.... I never bought a PS3.... but with 3D in the coming days.... perhaps the PS3 with firmware is better than the 3D blu-ray player.....

by PL(anon) on 03-12-2010 08:30 AM

I like the idea, I wonder if I can play a game like table tennis with my cousins in Germany... Does it support motion control for online multiplayer?

by Son(anon) on 03-12-2010 10:47 AM

Nice try Sony, but I afraid it is a bit too late already.

Wii had the market already, it is a well known product for family and women, and it is way way cheaper.

playstation move sounds good, but think about the price, the remote plus playstation Eye, my guess is you will need to pay at least $100 to get your first ps move.  how much is a Wii console?  $209.

Also, Xbox Natal is coming soon, probably the end of this year.  If you haven't heard about that, search the internet "Nadal project" and watch the trailer, you will feel like this little playstation move is nothing.

by Rizwan(anon) on 03-12-2010 10:59 AM

I'm going to sell my Wii as soon as this comes out and buy it! I already have a PS3 Eye! No other platform has that 1:1 motion capture ability.

by Naddy(anon) on 03-12-2010 12:28 PM

ahahahahah this is a joke, I love how playstation is trying to compete with xbox. They are not going to change the gaming industry, microsoft will with project natal.

by Mark2025(anon) on 03-12-2010 02:30 PM

I heard it will be $100. And yes the Wii has this and yes it is cheaper, but Wii is very limited! Wii doesn't even have HD! It would be amazing to play on the PS3 with HD graphics and play many of the GREAT PS3 games. This looks much more precise and better developed then the wii. Plus you realy can't go wrong with Buying a PS3. PS3 is 100 dollars more than a Wii, and you get a Blueray player out of it. At a time when eveyrone has HD TV and sony's annoucment of 3D gaming on the PS3 , I would rather spend 100 dollars more on a PS3 and get into HD than be cheap and save 100 dollars and get a very limited and inferior console. Wii doesn't even feel Next Gen, I feel like I'm playing a N64 when I play Wii. To get the precision out of the wiimote you have to buy those $25 dollar motion plus addons which probabily is still less precise than the PS3. I think PS3 is a great media console, it's deffinately worth it. Free ONline Gaming as well! Also, Sony just keeps adding onto the Console's featuress. It looks like Playstation will come out on top of all 3 consoles in the end. PS3 is a powerful system which will be suported for MANY more years to come! The Wii is already at the end stages of its life. NIntendo is releasing the next console soon, and NIntendo will stop supporting it's old console; it always does. Sony supports is console long past the new one's release. Ps2 has been supported for 10+ years now. Don't be cheap and get with the times. A console without HD is not worth buying. Nintendo's new console will have HD but to me Nintendo is behind in technology. I can see Nintendo falling behind Microsoft and Sony. Sony/Microsoft have very developed media console, Gaming experience, powerful console, great online. Nintendo still has to Touch upon some of these things. It's going to be hard to play catch up to the leaders!

by karanster(anon) on 03-13-2010 06:44 AM

Now ps is trying to compete with wii, i'd like to see this. Wii has been running with 1 model for years and look at ps they've made ps1, ps2, ps3 and now ps move. I'd rather buy a wii then a ps move. Has Wii ever made a Wii 2. All these years people were and still will be buying Wiis.

by dom52(anon) on 03-13-2010 09:50 AM
ok like i really wonder where that idea came from i don't know the wii. the wii has only been out for this long and they really think there coming out with there own original idea ya right i think its just another sad attempt to fit in. because the nintendo already been there and microsoft has there own idea that doesn't even invole a controller so at lest same idea different in a whole new way but the ps move is just a knock off.
by DG(anon) on 03-13-2010 12:15 PM

karanster, you clearly don't know what you're talking about. Wii is not a company, Nintendo is a company though. While Sony has made Playstation 1, 2 and 3, Nintendo has made NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii. For the record, I'd rather own PS Move then Wii.

by TeamEpic(anon) on 03-13-2010 03:31 PM

Ha, Motion controls are stupid. Plain and simple. How many hardcore gamers actually want to spend hours on end waving their arms around like monkeys? Well done PS for trying to come and steal thunder from Nintendo but it wont work. Nintendo is made for casual gamers, PS3 and 360 is made for the REAL gamers. If you want to play ping pong with a buddy across the seas this will be great. But if you want to put in 5 hours of modern warfare or halo or God of War this gadget wont change the way you play at all.

Stop trying to invent new technology and just work on perfecting the technology we already have.

by KainLives(anon) on 03-13-2010 05:17 PM

DG(anon), I had to laugh too when i saw karanster post.  He thinks the wii has existed since the dawn of time!  PS3 is superior in all ways.  Even if more kids or parents with kids bought a Wii, the PS3 is a far better machine.  Now they've brough in a more precise and emersive version of the Wii...fine with me.  will be fun.  Take something that works, make it better, and then take some of that money from Nintendos pockets!

by tygrstyle(anon) on 03-14-2010 10:06 AM

Here's my two cents...I've got a Wii and a PS3, I've been saying it all along, once sony comes out with a motion capture solution they are going to blow nintendo out of the water. Xbox will give PS3 a good run with their project natal, but I think the gaming experience will be much better on the PS3 because there is a more definite and more accurate form of feedback from the PS3 Move controllers, which is 1:1. I don't know how well the motion sensing technology is on the Microsoft product, but I think it will be a wash, whoever has an xbox will buy that addon and PS3 owners will buy the Move, meanwhile Wii owners will regret their decision once they see the power and capabilites of these two new technologies. My suggestion to Wii owners who are might jump ship to one of the other guys is to buy a PS3. No hate on the 360, I think they have done an excellent job for online gaming but one should expect as much when they are paying for xbox live service. However PS3 really does everything. I have my PS3 running ubuntu and networked to my other PCs. I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I have connected to the PS3 and I use it like a PC. And it's got a blu-ray player. And the hardware capabilites haven't been fully tapped yet, once these 4th gen games start coming out we will see the true power of the system. I know I can do some of this with a 360, but the PS3 just does so much more.

by nikk(anon) on 03-14-2010 11:00 AM

All i've got to say is... Who the hell came up with the controller.....

by Tdogg(anon) on 03-15-2010 07:41 AM
Can't wait to try this with Resident Evil 5... RE4 Wii was awesome, and I wished RE5 could use the wiimote... until now!
by alex30(anon) on 03-15-2010 07:23 PM

Should I buy a 360 or a ps3? I don't know which one I should buy.

by Scottevans(anon) on 03-16-2010 03:57 AM

why can't xbox or Ps3 come up with original commercials? they look the same as the Wii.

by CodeJerryS(anon) on 03-16-2010 08:00 AM

Playstation move is a great step for sony, If you love you Wii but it doesn't feel like its giving you the full gaming experience like modern warfare 2,borderlands,final fantasy your already experienced with the Wii motion controller this is exactly the same and really easy to pickup and play if you ever played a Wii. Xbox Natal however is completely different and nobody even thinks this can be used to hardcore game you will never see this used in games today while the PSmove you will see it in newer games. Sony has the right idea using the same controller that millions are used to and bring it to a more hardcore experience but at the same time still be family friendly.

Wireless numchuck makes ripping out the cord in the middle of playing impossible unlike the wii. The Wiimote uses AA batteries while PSmove has built in lithium so you never need to buy batteries or chargers agian! :smileyvery-happy:

by JonnyK(anon) on 03-16-2010 01:30 PM

My brother and I both bought xbox 360 so we could play against eachother, and we have sent both consoles in for repairs on NUMEROUS occasions. Microsoft has done nothing but stolen money from our pockets with all problems and malfunctions that come with the console. We eventually ended up getting xbox repaired again...(big surprise...) and decided we would try ps3. I have never had a problem with the ps3, not to mention the online service that comes with it is almost comparable to xbox's. (this depends on your internet connection and how you use it!) PS3 is so much better because not only does it come with great features like blu-ray, and the free online, they arent requiring you to pull another large amount for their new motion remotes. I have completely stopped investing in xbox.. no point unless you want to keep flushing your hard earned cash down the toilet. OH and i almost forgot... Sony is releasing a software patch for PS3 to upgrade its blu-ray to 3D when 3D TV is released... FOR FREE! Take it from me, a customer who has both products. DO NOT make the sam e mistake I did!

by Trusted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-16-2010 05:37 PM

I should point out that

a) The 360 and the PS3 compete for the same audience, but both have their own unique features and games that make both consoles worth owning.

b) PSMove is NOT a new console, unlike some have mentioned above.  It's simply a new controller with a new interface/firmware update.

c) While the 360 has its issues.  So does the PS3.  Go read any reviews that are out there.  It comes down to how you care for your console.

Ok, now that that is out of the way, let's get on with it.

Personally, I don't see this as an attempt to compete with the Wii at all.  I think that Sony is trying to come out ahead of Microsoft here.  Microsoft will be releassing Project Natal this holiday season, and I think that this is Sony's attempt to compete with that.

Personally, I will have both a PS3 and a 360 by the time both PSMove and Project Natal come out.  I'll probably end up getting both at some point or another, but I will go with Project Natal first, since I prefer the 360 to the PS3 (am I the only one?) for most games.  Both look like interesting concepts, and to be able to have a similar interaction with games as the Wii will be absolutely spectacular with some of the great games that each of these systems bring to the table.

Just my unapologetic two pence.

No thanks Sony. We have already seen everything a motion controller can do from the wii. Suddenly the PS3 will be flooded by an endless list of mini games compilation that focus on wiggle controls. Sony has already stated they are focusing on the current Wii player who is finally ready to upgrade to HD gaming.

Project Natal on the other hand is something completely different the the Wii/Sony wiggle motion. I'm very interested to see how developers are going to use Microsoft's 3D motion capture camera. The fact that Natal can detect the skeletal movement of up to 4 players at once and use facial recognition is pretty cool.

Face it, Sony is taking the waggle control route to get that juicy soccer mom/casual gamer market Nintendo has been making a fortune on.

by leonlian007(anon) on 03-17-2010 12:03 AM

I own ps3, 360 and wii, not counting those handheld ones...

To me, this new sensor design has huge difference comparing with wii just by looking at it. It involves more action rather than just moving around your wrists. But wii would still have it's price advantage as the new ps3 controller seems to cost more than $100 plus the camera (coz i think both the console and the camera are sensing the controller).

For those thinking ps3 would be a better 3D source, it is really not that easy to display the best 3D quality by just updating the software. Like ps2, ps3's hardware would be less valued month after month. If you want a decent 3D source, you better wait till Christmas.

by kit(anon) on 03-17-2010 08:41 AM
Please read articles and news before trying to look interesting when asking question like: I wonder how expensinve it will be ..i just bought a console and a tv ...snif snif' guys...Playstation.com revealed the price already: under 99$ for the controller + PS EYE + a game. thats it that cheap
by Trusted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-17-2010 09:34 AM

Like many have mentioned previously, Natal will kick serious behind!  Bravo MS!

That's really all that needs to be said. lol

by Sebastian(anon) on 03-17-2010 01:24 PM

Sa va être vraiment cool la Playstation move....

Il va avoir un rumeur que Modern warfare 3 on va povoir l'utilise avec le Playstation move..... 1 mot completement fous Hi Hi Hi.....

I don't see the harm in making more devices for PS3. Some of you guys are going at it just because PS3 is making a motion sensing device. It was Wii who started off with motion sensing remotes but now companies are making it better like when IPhone came out, touch phones started to appear. It's just an idea growing but if project natal is real and comes out this year, first of all I will go like (edit)" and my second remark would be "**bleep** I WANT ONE", and second it would blow all systems for a while but once people start finding the technology capable of doing it, they would add more features and fix the bugs. PS3 is just making something more physical and if you guys don't like it, don't buy it but if you want to know how  it's like, read the reviews once it comes out.

by Jeremy Superich(anon) on 03-18-2010 07:23 AM

lol just a bit late on the opening sony lol natal is already on its way. and how is the wii shity...its got lots of great games not all family games. your getting hd for a 100$ more out of this with 3d. you can get console with games controlers for so much cheaper lol and burn them. the sony isnt going to be more physical then natal how does anyone know that how is it more physical then some wi games(if you stand up and play). will be interesting to see which ones going to blow which out of the water but i think id wait till the price is right to grab either when there out

by Exalted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-18-2010 05:14 PM

Nice video, and I really do appreciate Sony trying to get into this market, but if it wasn't for the funny-looking glowing balls and the superior graphics, I would have though I was watching a Wii commercial.

Besides, if Natal is as good as we've been led to believe, it will absolutely blow the Wii and the PS Move right out of the water.

by gujuman23(anon) on 03-18-2010 05:19 PM

I honestly think Project Natal is gonna be really messed up at first, im not saying it **bleep**. It looks amazing (Natal) and if it works as advertised i would buy it but .. knowing MS's history im sure theres going to be something wrong with it that makes alot of potential buyers move over to ps3 or wii.

by dirt_squirrel(anon) on 03-19-2010 07:24 AM

this is ridiculous. you are all just a bunch of band wagon jumpers. realistically speaking, project natal is only going to be doing what the playstation eye has been doing since it was out for the ps2, albeit a little bit better what with the apparent "skeletal structure mapping" or whatever garbage they've decided to call their new proprietary crap they've added.

as far as the ps move goes, i think it's interesting and only natural that they make a progression away from traditional gaming and accessories. MS and PS are both coming out with their own additions to the motion controller scene, but the move at least has hardware controls in addition to the existing ps eye, whereas natal is an entirely NEW camera to replace the one that hardcore xbox gamers probably already own.

beyond that, i think the two companies merely engaging in healthy competition. the fact is that once the all the dust settles from this so called "motion war" the real winners won't be the company that captures the most attention with their technology, it will the be company that captures the most interest with their new technology and how it adapts and works with the associated system.

by User6262(anon) on 03-19-2010 04:09 PM

To the XBox fanboys saying Natal will blow everything else out of the water....Buy into the hype much?  You all honestly think it will work exactly as advertised in all of the trailers for it?  Good freakin luck!  In the beginning it will likely be buggy and will not be able to compete with the PS3 Move's 1:1 capture ability.  The XBox 360 is aging hardware, and in the end people and gaming companies will want to move on to more powerful hardware and see the 'future' of what a gaming console is capable of.  Not to continue developing software for what is basically a 3-core Intel CPU.  Microsoft's answer to keep money flowing into the XBox 360 is to release countless sequels (how many Halo's are we up to now?) and to drop the price of its noisy, buggy, and cheaply built system to the price of a high-end toaster.  Yes the PS3 has had problems as where, but nowhere NEAR as many as the XBox 360 RROD issue.  It's an industry joke and will be remembered forever as the worst cover up of buggy hardware ever released.

by Game_Playin_Guy(anon) on 03-19-2010 04:15 PM

I'd like to address the people bringing up the cost of Move being around $100, and complaining about it.  How much do you think Natal is going to cost?? $20 ?? I don't think so, it will likely be right at the same price point.  Paying $100 for a system that you can now buy for $100 just seems...wrong....to me.

by Game_Playin_Guy(anon) on 03-19-2010 04:17 PM

I meant to say " Paying $100 for an add-on for a system you can now buy for $100 just seems...wrong....to me."

by Trusted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-19-2010 05:01 PM

The Arcade version of the 360 is on right now, in Canada only, for $129.  That will not last forever and the price will soon go back up to $199.

Also note that the Arcade 360 does NOT come with a hard drive, so other than being a back-up for a broken console, there's not much that can be done with it in terms of its full potential.  If you want to get a hard drive, you're looking at least another $110 on top of the money you spent on the console to get a hard drive.

Down-playing the specs and price of the 360 to beef up your argument in favour of PSMove doesn't sell me, and I doubt it would sell many other people either.  I'd recommend sticking to the facts :smileyhappy:

by Trusted Expert / Community Ambassador on 03-19-2010 05:17 PM

The other thing I should note is that there has been a lot of bashing going back and forth between the XBox community and the PS community.  Instead of arguing back and forth about the downfalls of the one you don't like, let your wallets speak for you :smileywink:

The sales will speak for themselves, as will the returns.  Both Project Natal and PSMove have their merits, and I am sure both will make an even more excellent gaming experience for both systems.  Some will go for PSMove, some will go for Project Natal, some will go for both (I'm probably in the latter category).

For those that say Project Natal will only do what the PSEye was doing for the PS2, you should really do some research before making statements like that.  There's a lot more than that to Project Natal.  That's all I have to say on that.

It will be interesting to see how both work, because they both seem to have different methods to them.  I'm really looking forward to seeing how these add-ons work out!

"It only controls everything" is strech considering it can only do bluetooth(& maybe usb) which would mean logitech would have to do a firmware upgrade to their harmony offering
