It's Always Hockey Season In Canada

4477i9E865B797B04DA16The NHL pre-season is just a month away, but it's never really not "hockey season" in Canada.  We go right from the Stanley Cup to the draft, to free agency and now we're looking forward to roster changes and rookie camps.

When the NHL announced the 2011 Heritage Classic would return to Alberta with the Montreal Canadiens playing the Calgary Flames on February 20 at McMahon Stadium it was a reminder that even in the August heat, hockey is never too far away.

I dipped right in to the new season with some great social media tools available from your favourite NHL teams.

Already the new schedules are out and with one click you can install them on to your iCal or Outlook calendars.  (It's great for a guy who lives in Calgary, but is a fan of the Canucks.)

The Canucks' new deal with Rogers is bringing a boat load of games to the web for the new season.  To balance out the availability of the new Sportsnet One channel, all the Rogers telecast Canucks games will be also shown online at Canucks.com

The Montreal Candiens give fans of Firefox a chance to bling out their browser with an entire bleu, blanc et rouge theme.  Some teams app up the experience with official apps, while fans of teams without can grab an unofficial hockey team app to fill the void.

No matter which team in Canada (or the league) you track, here are the tools to bring a little ice hockey to your summer vacation.
