Keurig Single Serve Coffee Maker (KUB60) Reviewed
Keurig's Single Serve Coffee Makers address the biggest problems of traditional drip coffee makers. We often tend to brew too much, they require replaceable baskets for the coffee grounds and they need to be cleaned after each brew and consumers usually buy and consume large quantities of the same kind of coffee.
Well, with the Keurig KUB60, available from Future Shop this is no longer the case.
Single Serve Coffee Makers like the KUB60 celebrate diversity and freedom of choice. This is evident by the range of coffee, tea and even hot chocolate K-Cups from various roasters and some famous brands. The KUB60 is also all about getting your warm beverage fresh since it is brewed on the spot and getting it fast since it takes around a minute to get a cup done from start to finish.
The best part of this whole experience is that anyone can make the perfect cup with minimum fuss.
As a caffeine-fueled writer, I have both a drip coffee maker as well as an espresso machine at home and use freshly ground beans for both for maximum freshness and for the deepest, darkest flavour.
Both these methods will yield a great cup of coffee or the perfect espresso or latte when used correctly but there is a lot of prep work involved and there's a substantial amount of cleanup required.
With the Keurig KUB60, we did not even bother reading the manual as everything about this coffee maker is designed to be dead simple.
Fill the removable 1.4 liter reservoir with water, power the device on and after running it without a K Cup, select your brew of choice, pop-it in the receptable and choose the size of the drink you want to make and that's it. Done.
You get three cup brew sizes (6, 8 and 10 oz), Temperature control from 187F to 192F.
The variety of coffee flavours and types is quite varied.
We particularly enjoyed Emeril's Big Easy Bold Coffee which had a dark and strong flavour perfect for the start of a rainy day.
We also tried the Donut House Coffee which is very similar to Dunkin' Donut's brew and Celestial Seasonings Original India Spice Chai Tea which was delicious.
As long as you have enough water in the reservoir, you can keep brewing and making hot drinks one a minute. The Keurig system is so finely tuned that not only does it brew the right quantity you specify it makes sure to finish off the brewing process with an extra burst of water and air to give your drink some froth at the surface.
Other convenient features are that the brewer allows you to program water temperature, set the digital clock and Auto On/Off for programmed brewing.
When you're done, all that is left to clean is the discarded K Cup, no mess or hassle.
While Future Shop offers a selection of K cup refills from stores and from their website, they also have the My K-Cup reusable accessory that gives the customer the choice to use their own coffee or tea.
All in all, a great system for any kind of coffee or tea drinker that wants hassle-free preparation and a wide variety of brands and flavours to perk up their day.
