Last call for pre-orders: Borderlands 2

Borderlands2boxart3.jpgNext week we’ll finally see 2K Games release Gearbox studio’s new shooter, Borderlands 2. The first borderlands game came out way back in 2009. In video game terms, thats a lifetime ago so you know they’ve been busy with a lot of improvements over the past few years.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, picture a first person shooter game crossed with an action RPG with western themes set in space and you’re starting to get the idea. You and three friends can play co-operative multiplayer as you build your characters. You start off by selecting a character class. Each class has different properties and skills so it can influence your play style. From there you go on quests or complete challenges to gain experience points, money and loot. As you get experience you’ll level up to expand your skill set and grow your character as you see fit.

In the game’s story five years have passed since we last left Pandora when the vault hunters exposed the Eridian Vault’s secrets. Now we find that Handsome Jack has claimed all that wealth and credit, using it to take over the whole Hyperion corporation and becoming the virtual ruler of all Pandora. It's up to you and your gang of vault hunters to stop him, bring him down, and save Pandora and its colonist population.

The game uses a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3 with a distinctive cell shaded aesthetic. It's available to pre-order now at Future Shop for both the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 video game consoles as well as PC. The game hits shelves next week on September 18th. Theres also an Ultimate Loot chest Limited Edition of Borderlands 2 available for preorder with lots of extra goodies. It's a must-have for Borderlands fans and sure to sell fast so definitely pre-order soon if you want one of those. All Borderlands 2 Pre-orders will receive the Future Shop exclusive Borderlands 2 Steelbook too.

Lol, who is that advice geared towards? Besides those peering into the future from the month of June... :smileywink:

I guess it's actually a good thing that Bioshock Infinite got pushed to February, my October schedule has cleared up for Borderlands 2.  :smileywink:

I'm going to be so busy with games until Christmas - between Borderlands 2, Resident Evil 6, Assassin's Creed III and Halo 4 all within a month and a half of each other, I'm gonna be a busy guy.

Really looking forward to getting my loot chest!

...and Dishonored!

Very stoked for the Loot Chest too. I hope they arrive at the warehouse and ship out early! I wonder if the SKU on the Loot Chest carts is the same as the regular ones. It might be worth it to pick up another retail copy on Tuesday if it doesn't arrive on release day :smileyhappy:

We have two consoles, so we pre-ordered the Loot Chest one and then the regular one so that my wife and I don't have to argue over who gets to play Borderlands when.

I'm interested in Dishonored, but with everything else coming out, I think I'm going to hold off on getting that until I have a bit more time to dedicate to it.

Yeah that's funny we had the same discussion, except my gf and I were deciding whether to get another copy and co-op on separate floors of the house, or to just play split screen and, you know, actually be in the same room... hehe

Wow, we have the exact same tastes in games, Juice0904.  Your list of games are my top four titles for this fall!

@debaser17, my wife and I both like to work on our own when we're playing this game (learned that lesson the hard way with the first game lol) and play through it individually - I don't expect I'll really be into playing co-op with others in this one either.  When it comes to RPGs (of any kind) I have a hard time playing with other people.  I like to move at my own pace, which is often either too fast or too slow for whoever is joining me and it just becomes a frustrating venture.  Borderlands 2 will likely be the same, as it doesn't look like they've changed much about the player interaction over the interwebs or split-screen.

@Paul - yeah, I've had all these games pre-ordered for months, except Halo 4 as I'm waiting for release day to pick up one of the consoles.  I know I'm taking a risk at not being able to grab it, but I imagine this will be like the Gears 3 one - most people will get the regular or limited edition of the game, but only a niche of the fan base will fork over the money for the console, likely leaving a number in the store on release day.  I've been in the market for one of the slim consoles for a while, I was just waiting for the perfect moment, and when I saw this console, I knew that was it :smileyhappy:  I don't always go with Future Shop for pre-ordering games, but when it comes to consoles, I always shop at Future Shop and get the PSP - I go through controllers and headsets fairly quickly, so having the ability for OTC exchange on those accessories has saved me hundreds over the years (even after factoring in the price of the warranty).

But yeah, very stoked about this fall's releases.  I'm also really excited about Bioshock Infinite.  Though I'm a little concerned about the sudden shift from Rapture - perhaps there will be some tie in through Andrew Ryan or one of his relatives?

You're a smart man buying both the loot chest and regular to avoid that fight Juice :smileyhappy:
