We recently took a look at the new Linksys EA6500 802.11ac router, the new home networking gadget that will let you take advantage of the latest in WiFi speeds. Well Cisco has also released a new gadget to let you capitalize on those speeds. When coupled with an 802.11ac compatible WiFi router, the WUMC710 universal media connector lets you take advantage of Gigabit wireless technology on your existing wired ethernet gear.
This is a nice small gadget, not much more complex as a toaster to set up. Once it is you can simply plug in up to four different ethernet cables to have them instantly connected to your WiFi network. That means that if you’ve got a Smart TV, game console, or Blu-Ray player you’ll be able to take advantage of extreme 802.11ac speeds, giving you great performance comparable to a strictly wired connection. These days most high end home theatre gear can take advantage of having an internet connection, and its certainly becoming one of the most popular applications of broadband internet. If you look at what the biggest uses of bandwidth are in your home network, media streaming and online gaming are likely at the top of that list. With that considered, 802.11AC speeds are just what you’ll need to get the best possible outcome.
There certainly aren't many 802.11ac options out on the market yet if you want to enjoy these speeds. We’ll likely start to see home theatre equipment come out that takes advantage of it in the coming years but that will certainly take some time, and what of all your existing gear? With something like the WUMC710 universal media connector you don’t have to get all new equipment and can be running at maximum wireless speeds in no time.
