If you're like me, then that bubbling sensation you were feeling last week has probably grown so tingly that can hardly count the days until the kick off of the grandest gaming spectacle of the year -- the Electronic Entertainment Expo (hint: it's in five days).

During the E3 festivities, which run from June 1 through June 4, we can expect to be stunned, overjoyed, and likely, floored at least once or twiceReally, there is no better time to be a gamer than right now.

So, what better way to honour such a decorated event than with the obligatory predictions posts us gaming bloggers simply can't resist writing? In case you missed my Microsoft and Nintendo predictions I encourage you to check them out and let me know what you think. As the final console maker presenting at E3, Sony's press conference has a lot riding on it. Will they end the show off with a bang, or a whimper? Let's do some educated guessing, shall we...

Sony Press Conference - June 2 at 11:00am PST

It could be argued that on paper Sony should be trailblazing this generation. Not only is the PS3 the most powerful hardware on the market, the console also has a solid line-up of must-have AAA exclusives such as Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and LittleBigPlanet to name a few. It's rather peculiar then to see the PS3 hardware sales not keep pace or exceed the competition from a pure numbers game. Well, one look at Sony's upcoming fall line-up and you might wonder if momentum is about to swing in their favour.

Unlike its rivals who have held their cards tight, Sony has been rather forthright in dishing out gaming announcements. We know that Naughty Dog is hard at work developing a new Uncharted game, Insomniac Games is busy making a new Ratchet & Clank adventure, Quantic Dream is busily trying to finish its adult adventure game Heavy Rain, and as we heard at last year's E3, SCE Studios Santa Monica currently has the mighty God of War 3 in development. Zipper Interactive is working on M.A.G., and Sony Online Entertainment still has their hands full with The Agency and DC Universe Online. Oh, and there's also a sleeping giant that Polyphony Digital is (hopefully) putting the finishing touches on called Gran Turismo 5 that should finally see the light of day this year

So that's what we know, but what about those announcements we don't know about yet. Let's seefor starters I think Sony will likely announce release dates for most of the games listed above, and I wouldn't be surprised if all them make it out this fall aside from God of War 3. Yes, sadly, I think that game will be next year's Killzone 2 and land in either February or March. While this be a little disappointing, keep in mind that Sony has more than enough blockbusters to satiate our gaming hunger this fall.

I also think that Sony will likely introduce at least one new PS3 bundle, perhaps we'll get the inFAMOUS one that is hitting the U.K., or see a Gran Turismo 5 bundle announced for this fall. There is also a slim chance we'll see a price drop for the PS3, although given how ardent Sony is at denying such rumours, I give it 3:1 odds.

To please RPG fans (and to tide them over until FFXIII drops) I expect Sony to show an English trailer for Level 5's White Knight Chronicles. Given that it's currently being localized, odds are we'll see this game in 2009 as well. FFXIII probably will show up in some form during the Sony press conference, and expect Final Fantasy XIII Versus to also make waves.

Perhaps the biggest and best surprise I think we'll see at this year's show is the unveiling of Team Ico's tightly guarded project. It's closing on four years since Shadow of the Colossus hit shelves, and in the words of Sony's VP Shuhei Yoshida, Team Ico is the company's "Olympic Team" since they tend to release a game every four years. I would imagine their game would be close to completion by nowIn fact, if the leaked video is true, the game is called Trico and likely will be a direct sequel to their PS2 sleeper hit game Ico.

Unfortunately, one of the games we shouldn't expect to see at this year's E3 is Eat Sleep Play's secretive PS3 game headed by David Jaffe of God of War 1 & 2 fame. According to David, he's "not showing anything at E3".  That's too bad, especially since many people believe the game in question is a new Twisted Metal.

Finally, I think it's a certainty that we'll see the announcement of a new PSP model, one that will drop the UMD Disc and be download-only. Perhaps it'll also come with a touch screen, but don't expect two analogue sticks. Sony will jump in with some heavy hitters on display including Patapon 2, Hammer Hero, LittleBigPlanet Portable, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, and they will also showcase third-party games such as Rock Band: Unplugged and Assassin's Creed. On top of that, expect at least one or two major PSP software announcements to supplement this already strong line-up.

Well, there you have itAll three console maker predictions are done. Let me know what you think of my predictions!

Oddly enough, I don't have much to say for Sony. Maybe it's because, like you said, they didn't try to hide anything this year(or so it seems).

They have a great line up of games for the next 12 months.

Lowering the price for the console would be a good move on their part. They're already losing a tons of money and the best way to cut those loss would be to have more PS3 out there for which people would buy games (giving more royalties to Sony). They've tried for two years "not" to lose too much money on the PS3 hardware and look at the result, more loss than any other companies. It's time they change that strategy and I don't think bundles are the way to go. It might help a little but not that much. At least, that's what I think.

As for the PSP, I think Sony is completely lost in that segment of the market and they'll try anything "new" to try win over people who loves the Nintendo DS. I might be wrong but as it is right now, the Future is not that bright for the PSP. Granted, it's the only portable console in the entire video games history that lasted that long against Nintendo but still, wonder where it will be in one or two years.

Ahh Sony!  MY favourite of the big 3...

I don't really have much to say either though, to be honest.  They always deliver, and I expect no less from them this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see God of War III get a March release date.  People are too optimistic in thinking it's an '09 game.  The first two titles were both launched in March, so I expect the third to follow suit...

As for White Knight Chronicles, there was a brand new English trailer posted on the Playstation Blog today, actually, so you should go check it out.  Definitely not the visually lovefest that Final Fantasy XIII is, but it should still be excellent.  Aside from Square-Enix, Level-5 is my favourite developer, so I'm expecting big things.

I, like you, can't wait to see what Team Ico has in store and am anxious to see "trico" finally unveiled with it's proper title.  If that tech video that just popped up from a few years ago is any indication I think we're all in for a real treat.  Though I think it will be an original story, set in the same universe as the other two titles and not a direct sequel to either.

So since we all know what Sony is bringing to the table, I'm most anxious to see what the third-parties bring.  Konami should have a few blockbusters announced (Kojima's next, for example, and of course, as I mentioned, I love Square-Enix so I can't wait to see what they bring (rumour has it one of their three new titles to announce is a PS3/PC MMO).

As for the rumours bouncing around, I would love to see a PS3 price cut to boost sales and shut up the naysayers, but I don't think it is quite time yet for that.  They have mentioned their pricing strategy will change this year, but I think we are likely to see that take effect later in the year to take advantage of the Christmas rush.  So no cuts now, but possibly a bundle like you mentioned.  As for the other mega-rumour: the PSP Go!  I think there is simply too much evidence to support it.  Whether it is everything that the rumours have made it out to be or not remains to be seen, but a new PSP, in some shape or form, will undoubtedly be there which should keep sales as high as they've been.  I'm pretty excited about it, actually.  Hopefully with a new model on shelves the PSP-3000 will see a reduction in price, and I'll finally be able to grab one.  The PSP has gotten the support it deserves this year, and there are too many big titles to miss.

@Morfanos

I do agree that Sony has to rethink their pricing strategy if they want to overtake the lead they enjoyed in the PS1 and PS2 erasGiven the high price point and the softening of the economy it's been a harder sellIt's quite unfortunate that this is the case because the PS3 is easily a must-own console this generation and there are plenty of exclusive first-party titles worth owningAnd as you mention, there are plenty more coming in the next 12 monthsI think when we see the release of games such as God of War 3, Uncharted 2, and Gran Turismo 5 we'll see a big surge in PS3 sales.

@ lilwingman

I pretty much agree with everything you said aboveIf I was a gambling man, I'd peg God of War 3 for a March 2009 release for exactly the same reason you stated -- every previous GoW game has released in a MarchI'm not sure the reasoning behind this tradition (maybe to be the *first* post-holiday exclusive, but you can't ignore the trend.

The english White Knight Chroncles trailer look beautifulWhile it probably won't be as epic as FFXIII, if the Japanese reviews are anything to go by, this is a solid title and a must-have for JRPG fans.

Team Ico's game could quite possibly make the show for meIco and Shadow of the Colossus are epic games in their own right, so I can't wait to see what this talented team of developers can do with the PS3 processing power.

Finally, while an immediate PS3 price cut would be nice, I tend to be in the camp that thinks this won't happen until the fall (or later).  Right now just doesn't make a lot of sense to meIf they were to time a price cut with the holiday madness, combined with one of the most solid line-up of games this generation, that would be a very strong case to upgrade your PS2 to a PS3.

Oh wow.  I just realised the hypocrisy of my comment.

"I don't really have much to say..." and then I still posted a novel :smileytongue:

We are obviously two cut from the same cloth, as I'll basically repeat what you said and agree with pretty well your entire post.

The show hasn't even started yet, and you've already been right with one of your predictions!  Right on!  The new PSP GO! is officially a reality.

The new PSP-Go is almost exactly like how speculators were gushing about, both in form, and in function.

There are quite a few websites that are linking to a leaked Qore video that confirms the existence of the PSP GO.  I guess we'll wait for the official announcement at tomorrow's press conference.
