Please join me in welcoming nheap to the Tech Blog as our featured guest blogger!

nheap (Nick Heap) is the Research and Policy Analyst at the David Suzuki  Foundation and over the next couple of weeks will be sharing articles on the subject of green technology and how to reduce your impact on the environment by making smarter technology decisions.

I’m also excited to share the freshly launched Future Shop Generations green website where you can find energy-saving tips from the David Suzuki Foundation, videos and information on where to recycle technology in your area.  As we fill our lives with more and more electronics, it’s important that we understand how to reduce our impact on the environment in a responsible and safe way.

Welcome to the team Nick!

Nick Heap, Research and Policy Analyst, David Suzuki Foundation

Nick has worked for the David Suzuki Foundation as a climate and energy policy analyst since 2005, working with government, agencies, professionals and other activists to advance sustainable solutions within government, utilities and the private sector. Prior to his work for the Foundation, Nick worked in local government for seven years, including five years at Metro Vancouver developing policy on air quality, climate change and broader sustainability issues. Nick also led the development of several Community Energy Plans for B.C. Municipalities and First Nations while working for the Pembina Institute. Nick has an M.A. in Community Planning from UBC.

This kind of politically correct nonsense is certain to ensure that I buy my electronics at another retailer.

Future shops siding with Suzuki just told me that my new 52 inch LCD is being purchased from (competitor)

Sirs: You are free to associate with Dr. Suzuki. My family and our business are free to shop elsewhere.

by Consumer24(anon) on 04-11-2010 07:06 AM

Neither I nor my family will even walk into Future Shop again until Future Shop severs the attachment with Suzuki.

I wish all the green activisits would quit ramming their brainwashing down our throats! I'm not buying their propaganda, and if Futureshop doeesn't stop with this nonsense I won't be buying their product either.

Whether or not you believe global warming is real or not, is there really anything wrong with trying to reduce the impact we have on the environment?  Is there something wrong with saving energy?  Is there something wrong with saving money on power costs?

I don't know where I stand on the whole "global warming" debate, but if there is some way that I can save money and possibly reduce the impact that I personally have on the environment, I'm all over it.

You guys are all free to shop elsewhere - that's the beauty of a free market economy.  But you should know that this is the direction things are going - and if you want to stay on the bandwago whee you spend more money and use more energy, you are more than welcome to do so :smileyhappy:

I think I should head to the gym and lift some weights.  I think I feel my wallet getting heavier already :smileywink:

I have always enjoyed shopping at future shop for my electronic needs.  Since Future Shop is supporting the David Suzuki Foundation, this is about to change. So if I support Future Shop, in turn I am supporting David Suzuki, something that I refuse to do.
