Nikon’s popular 1 series of mirrorless digital cameras has evolved, bringing us the J2 compact camera. It’s the next step for Nikon, featuring their legendary optical quality pair with smart controls and powerful software to get the job done.
The first thing you’ll notice about the Nikon 1 J2 is that it’s light and thin; mirrorless cameras really do break the mold when it comes to size and shape. The Nikon 1 line has its own series of lenses, which match the camera nicely. You can keep the profile slim with wide angle lenses (my favourite) or you can just as easily add a telephoto lens for serious distance shooting.
The big story with the Nikon 1 J2 is just how fast the autofocus is, focusing in under a second. You’ll find that you can catch fast-moving objects with ease… and getting candid shots is pretty simple too. Getting that shot can be simple; the J2 powers up and is ready to go simply by turning the lens.
One of the things I love about Nikon is how they’ve designed their software to help enhance everyone’s creativity - not just that of photo professionals. That can be seen in the Creative Modes that you’ll find on the J2; they let you change a picture to black and white and keep a single colour, shoot FullHD video AND take a snapshot while you’re doing it, or take panoramic photos just by sweeping the camera across the view.
Controls are relatively simple, as Nikon has put most things within finger reach. The 900k 3” makes it easy to see if you’ve got your shot right off the bat. Low-light shooting turns out well, as the J2 can shoot up to 3200 ISO and still produce great results.
The Nikon 1 J2 is coming to Future Shop soon.
