Nintendo Announces Wii U Launch Date & Games

Big news from the Nintendo camp today with tons of information rolling out on their upcoming Wii U game console.  These are the details we've been waiting for, including the launch date, pricing details and software line-up.  Get comfortable, as we've got a lot of news to cover!

 

The Nintendo Wii U will be coming out in North America on November 18, just in time for the holiday season and delivering on Nintendo's promise to release the console during "calendar 2012".  There will be two models available at launch, a Basic Set which will come in white for $299.99, and a Deluxe Set which comes in black and includes a larger capacity hard drive, additional accessories and the new Nintendo Land video game, all for $349.99.

As an incentive for customers to pick-up the beefed up Deluxe Set, Nintendo is rolling out what they call the "Deluxe Digital Promotion" which lets Wii U owners receive points for each digital download they make, with these points redeemable for future downloadable content from the Nintendo eShop.  The Deluxe Digital Promotion is currently planned through to 2014. 

 

On top of the big hardware announcement, Nintendo also announced over 50 games that will be available during the launch window beginning Nov. 18, 2012, and ending March 31, 2013.  Big name franchises are scheduled to appear on the Nintendo Wii U including Mario, Call of Duty, Madden NFL, Transformers, Skylanders, Assassin's Creed, and Batman, among others.
