It's been a relatively slow summer for gamers but today is the day - one of the biggest video game releases of this summer is finally upon us and available in stores across Canada. Sleeping Dogs is out now, and gamers are already getting their hands on their pre-ordered copies, complete with Future Shop exclusive Sleeping Dogs steelbook pre-order bonus. If you still haven’t committed to picking up this hot title, lets take at look and maybe you’ll be convinced.
The easiest game to compare this title to is the Grand Theft Auto series. It has a lot in common with those games, and superficially looks quite similar. It's not merely a Grand Theft Auto clone though. Imagine all the gritty crime and action of modern Hong Kong action movies brought to life on your screen and playable in an open world full of choice and variety. You’re starting to get an idea of what to expect here.
You play as an undercover cop called Wei Shen who is infiltrating organized crime in the open-world city. You can chose how to align your character, whether you lean more to siding with the Yakuza, or with your own Police force is up to you and can shape your experience in the game. There is a lot of detail here and so much to explore, you won’t get bored with Sleeping Dogs soon, making it a great start to the coming avalanche of game releases.
Beyond the simple driving and shooting of the Grand Theft Auto series, Sleeping Dogs incorporates parkour chases, hand to hand kung-fu combat, street racing, gambling, drug busts, cockfighting, and even going on dates. Now thats a lot of variety. You can even just go for a walk and admire the beautiful scenery and atmosphere of Hong Kong.
