Over 2 Million Mods Already Downloaded for Skyrim

Skyrim! Or to give it its proper title, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Of the people I know, it's actually the game they're all still playing the most, with nothing else having quite managed to drag them away from it. And to be honest I'm starting to worry that nothing will pull them away from it, with Bethesda having recently launched the Skyrim Creation Kit.

If you missed its launch, not too long ago, the Skyrim Creation Kit allows players to upload, download and install custom content through the Skyrim Workshop on Steam. You can see an overview of it here:

What does that mean? Well it means a potentially infinite amount of things can (and will) be added to the game. Admittedly, it's for PC players only, but clearly that was the version to go for (and many people went for it) because now, only a week after the launch of the creation kit, there are already 2,500 mods online (all free) which have already been downloaded over 2 million times.

Bethesda have released some fascinating stats, too, based on Steam's metrics: the average number of hours that a gamer plays Skyrim exceeds 75 hours. Read that again. That's average. That's actually kind of scary. How many hours have you spent in it?

Oh! Before you spend any more time in it, though, it's worth noting that along with the release of the Creation Kit, Bethesda also released the Skyrim High-Resolution Texture Pack as a free download. They did note however that in order to use it you should make sure your system exceeds the recommended specs for Skyrim: Windows Vista or 7 operating system, a minimum of 4GB of system RAM, and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.
