It’s launch is tantalizingly less than a week away. Gamers around the world have been yearning for it. Its probably got more hype and higher expectations than any other AAA video game title being released this holiday season. To top that all off, its even been developed by a Canadian studio! Next week Canadians will be able to finally get their eagar hands on Assassin’s Creed II from Ubisoft Montreal for the Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. Later in the year it will even be available for the new Nintendo Wii U console. With such a hot title on the horizon this is a pretty good chance to take a look at what fans can expect so you can get those last minute pre-orders in.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is oddly the fifth big Assassin’s Creed game, and the big news is that finally we’ll be free of Europe, with the game transplanting the player to North America around the time of the American Revolution between 1753 and 1783. Thanks to the new setting we’ll be playing as a half-Mohawk, half-English assasin called Connor (Ratonhnhaké:ton) Kenway. Of course We’ll also get some gametime playing as Desmond, and this Assassin’s Creed installment promises more involvement from Desmond than ever seen before in the series.
With the new game engine, Assasin’s Creed has a much bigger free-running aspect, feeling very fluid, almost parkour like. You’ll find yourself vaulting over trees, cliff faces and traversing the landscape from city to wilderness in three dimensions with the greatest of ease. Its faster and more acrobatic than ever. Running, jumping, and chaning a sequence of moves while getting smoothly from point A to wherever point B is is great now.
While you may be worried that this time period now means firearms are more common, fear not. Game-play is still very much up-close and personal. The guns are slow and inaccurate so you’re not going to be sniped from the rooftops any time soon. You’ll still be getting your hands dirty and feeling like a badass all the while.
Everything I’ve seen about Assassin’s Creed has me excited. Even those new to the franchise will find this a great jumping-in point. Everything is so much bigger and better than before. I dare to say its much more of an epic experience. To top that off, its all more fluid and robust. There is a lot more detail and love put into this world than I ever expected. It might just be one of the best games of the year, and is certainly worth checking out. I highly recommend you pre-order it while you can.
