Next week Ubisoft will finally be treating PC gamers to Rocksmith for electric guitar and bass. This very unique video game lets you plug in any real guitar or bass through a standard 1/4” input jack into the custom made USB adapter to rock out on your PC, and learn to actually play real songs. Even if you don’t have a bass guitar you can emulate one using your 6-string guitar.
The game features a nicely varied music library spanning classic rock to contemporary hits. There is a variety to chose from here and when playing along the game automatically adapts to how well you’re doing. If you’re doing too well it ups the difficulty to add to the challenge and keep you learning. If you’re fumbling too much it will ease things up so you can catch up and not get frustrated. It does all of this in real time as you play which makes it a wonderful learning tool that is easy to stick with whether you’re a beginner or more advanced.
You’ll be able to play lead guitar, rhythm, a combination of the two, or even bass tracks which helps with replayability. On top of playing along to the over fifty songs included with the game there is the ‘guitarcade’ which features amazing mini-games that really help you learn fundamental skills in an extremely fun way. It turns practice exercises into a fun challenge. You’ll forget you’re learning.
Even if you get tired of playing along to the songs, or the guitarcade, you can even just use Rocksmith as a virtual amp with a full arsenal of effects. You can just play around leisurely through your PC. We’ve already seen this game for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game consoles so its nice to see it finally landing on PC. You can even pick it up in a bundle with a real Epiphone guitar included so you’ll be ready to play straight away.
