bosch.jpgReview: Bosch Tall Tub Dishwasher

Boxing Week price - $479

I remember when I got my first BMW.  The clunk of the doors was different than my old Honda Civic.  It was a tight, solid ride that just felt better.

Put on a pair of Prada shoes and you'll feel the same.  Slip on a Hugo Boss suit and you'll see the difference.  Luxury brands are called that because they are just that level better than the regular brands.  Is luxury always necessary?  Not really, but if you can afford the step up in quality, the experience is different.

For Christmas this year, my wife and I agreed to buy each other a Bosch dishwasher.  While we thought we'd snagged a great deal, you can do us even better as a couple of Bosch models are on sale for Boxing Day.  We LOVE our new dishwasher, it's a luxury treat that has paid off in spades.

PROS:

We have a great room concept where our kitchen, living and dining rooms are all connected.  With our old Maytag, you couldn't run the dishwasher and watch tv at the same time, the volume was always drowned out.  Our new Bosch is quiet.  At just 50dB it's not the most whispery on the market, but it is still a soft speaking machine that is barely noticeable from our couch 10' away when it's on.

There are 5 cycle settings, we only use Auto Wash and things come out much better than our old stock Maytag.  One time we hit Power Scrub cycle by mistake and were blown away.  Dishwashing in Calgary can be a tough thing.  Our water is very hard and there's constantly a film.  You can get a water softener to help with laundry and dishwashing, but this cycle managed to power through like nothing we'd seen before.

Here's a pro tip for all dishwashers: don't rinse your dishes.

CONS:

The only con I can think of for this washer is the buttons on our model are on the outside.  There is a child lock to prevent toddlers from randomly turning on your machine, but having the buttons on the top of the door would be so much sleeker.  We couldn't afford that model when we bought ours last month, but you can - the Bosch Ascenta is on sale this week.

Something extra to note about dishwasher buying:

- The price you see above doesn't include delivery or installation.  I went to my local Future Shop and picked up the dishwasher and brought it home, and then paid the $199 for a pro to come and install it.  It took less than an hour, they were on time and it was quick and easy.

- You should pick up a new hose.  Your dishwasher comes with only one, they need two.  Depending on how long you had your previous model, that hose could use an updating so there are no leaks.  It's only $20 or so.  Get it when you get the dishwasher from Future Shop and if your installer says you don't need it, it's an easy return.

- After they install your new dishwasher, they can take away and dispose of your old one.  Free, simple easy and no worry.
