We’ve already taken a look at the new Microsoft Wedge Mobile bluetooth keyboard. Now its time to take a look at its sibling, the Microsoft Wedge Touch bluetooth mouse. Its microsoft’s new ultra-compact travel mouse for those on the go. It works with pretty well any device you’ve got that will support a bluetooth mouse. Touchscreens are gaining in popularity and so many of the devices coming out soon will have them, but for a lot of applications many users will still prefer their traditional mouse controls. This could be just what those users are looking for.
You may have noticed the word ‘touch’ in the name of this little gadget. Thats because this mouse features the ability to scroll around using simple touch based controls rather than a mouse wheel. The advantage to forgoing the mouse wheel is that now you can scroll in all four directions (up, down, left and right) comfortably without restriction. Theres no support on the Wedge for fancy multi-fingered gestures or anything that advanced like the Microsoft Touch Mouse, but still it beats the restrictive up/down scroll abilities of most mobile mice. This mouse also features Microsoft’s BlueTrack technology which I’m a big fan of. It means the mouse will work on pretty much any surface short of completely mirrored glass. Odds are, if you can rest your mouse on it, it will work.
Aptly names, this mouse looks like a little wedge of metal and matte plastic. At first glance you might think its a doorstop and not an actual mouse. Its so very tiny too, yet surprisingly comfortable to use. I can’t emphasise that enough. My big, clumsy hands didn’t feel cramped at all yet it will easily fit in any pocket so you’ll never hesitate to take it with you. To look at it the Wedge seems like just the front half of a mouse and you’ll wonder where the rest of it is yet it still manages to feel comfortable after extended use, and not a sacrifice at all. It feels so natural that it makes you wonder why other mice are so big.
The metal sides add a sense of reliability and durability while the matte soft-touch plastic surface keeps things comfortable and touchable. Overall this just looks refined, much like the Wedge Mobile keyboard. It combines refined design sensibilities with extremely efficient functionality to give you a very portable and professional option.
