Review: Sony NWZ W262 Water Resistant MP3 Player
Reg $69.99 On sale $59.99
2Gb Black / White
I don't get how people can run with their iPhone and all the fancy training apps that you can get - the things is just too beefy for me, even with an armband. The stock Apple earbuds are a mess and always seem to slip out as I get deeper into a workout. I have a pair of very old over the ear neck headphones that I wear with an iPod Shuffle clipped to my shirt.
At least once a workout the shuffle will come unclipped, or my arm will swing through the cord causing everything to go flying.
I've been looking for a wireless replacement, and the Sony Walkman NWZ-W262 just might be it.
This is the device every athlete has been looking for: a tight set of headphones that can wear without getting tangled in cords.
PROS:
Great design - no cords, a flexible neck strap and comfortable range of ear buds. The buttons are easy to find and access on the go, once you remember where they are and get used to them.
Long battery life - you can get a full 8 hours if you leave it to charge for 90mins, but even if you wake up with dead earbuds, it brags of a 60minute use after a 3 minute charge.
Drag and drop - loading the music is easy as you can drag and drop your files, use Windows Media Player or iTunes and it accepts a variety of file types including Apple's AAC files.
CONS:
Product name - good luck trying to remember the model number when asking Santa what you want for Christmas. Sure, there might have been issues with naming this Walkman the Aquaman, but the Walkman Aqua still would have fit the bill, been sexy and much easier to remember than NWZ-W262.
PC only - I'm usually accused of being such a Mac fanboi on here, but at least the Apple music products swing both ways, this one is only for the Windows kids.
What does "water resistant" mean?
It means they're not water proof.
According to the literature with the product: "You can use your Walkman while jogging or walking in the rain. You can continue to use your Walkman after perspiring. After using your Walkman, you can wash it with gently running tap water."
But what about swimming?
Pool water is specifically mentioned as a liquid that will limit the water resistant performance of the Walkman. It is stated the device is water resistant, "not completely water tight."
So no pool for you!
