Roku reinvents the set-top box as a USB stick sized device
Roku is known for making very compelling and affordable set-top boxes and has now redefined the genre by squeezing everything into a device the size of a USB stick.
The Roku Streaming Stick is the perfect solution for space conscious users who want to add streaming content to their HDTVs.
Resembling a USB thumb drive, the streaming stick squeezes Wi-Fi, a processor, memory, and specialized Roku software into a tiny enclosure that connects directly to the MHL-enabled HDMI ports on modern TVs, ensuring up-to-date software and access to services like Netflix, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and other services.
This is the first time we've seen a stick this size that has HDMI instead of USB. While the price has not yet been announced it is expected to run between $50-$100 which is in line with other Roku products, we expect this diminutive streaming solution to be quite competitive once it is formally introduced into the market.
