SOL Republic have only just entered the Canadian market, and on top of the Tracks and Tracks HD headphones available at Future Shop, there’s also a Deadmau5-themed set ready to hit the shelves, too. One of Canada’s most famous DJs and producers seems to have loved the brand so much, he helped design a set that carries his look and imprint on them.

These Deadmau5 headphones are essentially the same as Tracks HDs. The form factor is the same, it has the same V10 sound engine, the cups can slide off and the headband is virtually unbreakable. It seems the look and feel of the headphones is so enticing that Olympic swimming champion, Michael Phelps, was clearly seen listening to tunes on them when he wasn’t splashing around in a pool winning medal after medal.

Having reviewed the Tracks HD headphones already, there’s not much more to point out from the tech side, but naturally, you get a totally different look with these than the regular model. Granted, SOL Republic also offers a number of different headbands to help you personalize them more, but no matter what, these are distinctively Deadmau5-inspired headphones.

As far as I know, SOL Republic won’t be selling the Deadmau5 headband or the cups separately, like they will be doing with the regular units, so getting the full set is the only way right now. I also checked to see if different materials were used to construct these, but nothing to report there, either. The components are same as the Track HDs from top to bottom. Even the carrying case is the same.

Unfortunately, they’re also no more comfortable than the Tracks HDs are. Wearing these after a while may make your ears feel a little sore, which I noted was an issue with the other models when I reviewed them. It’s a trade-off, though, since you get good sound for a better price. That’s especially true when compared to something overpriced like Beats by Dre.

Look for the Deadmau5 SOL Republic headphones to hit Future Shop really soon. I’ll update you all once you can get your hands on them.

Hey x0pa,

Yes, SOL Republic's headphones come with a mic and volume controls included on the cord. The diference is that they're not specific to iOS devices, so you can use them with Android or BlackBerry too. Click the button once to play and pause, twice to skip to next track and three times to go back.

As for comfort, these aren't "over-ear" headphones, but rather on-ear, since they don't cover around the ear. Not sure that they'd be more confortable than the Beats on-ear headphones, but you get more balanced sound for a lot less money.
