Sony has inducted five more titles into their esteemed Greatest Hits Library. The distinction, it is said, is granted to select titles that have been on the market for some time and have achieved a substantial retail sell-through. While I don't believe Sony has ever come out and stated the criteria for a game to qualify, it is generally believed that a PS3 game must have been on the market for at least 10 months and sold 500,000 or more copies.
It's not really a surprise then, that the following five titles have met that criteria:
- God of War III (Sony)
- Heavy Rain (Sony)
- ModNation Racers (Sony)
- UFC Undisputed 2010 (THQ)
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Game of the Year Edition (Sony)
Expect all of these games to receive a permanent price slash, and to be repackaged in the sleek red packaging all other Greatest Hits titles ship in (see below).
These five titles join a pantheon of 47 other Greatest Hits games showcasing the strength of the PS3 including inFamous, Grand Theft Auto IV, Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Dead Space, Assassin's Creed II, Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time, Fallout 3, and many more.
For the dedicated collector out there that simply must have their games in the original packaging you'll probably want to grab a copy of whatever of the five games listed above that you're missing -- pretty soon they'll all be shipping in the shiny red package. Personally, I like the red plastic and I have dedicated spot on my gaming shelf for "greatest hits" titles.
In case you're wondering, Heavy Rain will ship with PlayStation Move support. The motion controller-compatible version was released alongside the PlayStation Move last September. Heavy Rain is a psychological thriller where players take control of an ensemble cast of characters seeking to uncover information on the Origami Killer, a serial killer who methodically kills his victims with rainfall. Using a combination of the PlayStation Move controller and the PlayStation Eye camera, this enhanced version of Heavy Rain allows players to become more immersed in their quest to bring the Origami Killer to justice through controls that mimic real-world motions.
The Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - Game of the Year Edition contains the award-winning action game by developer Naughty Dog, plus over $35 of bonus content. Here's a rundown of all the additions that come in the Game of the Year Edition:
