If you are a Facebook user and if you have Telus Optik TV at home, here's a neat little announcement from Telus.  Telus Optik TV users can now view Facebook from their TV!  So now you can get your Facebook fix while watching TV, you can Like or Dislike shows that you're watching and more.

To access Facebook on your Optik TV service, simply press Menu and then navigate to the Applications tab.  You can follow the steps located here to get fully set up: http://www.telus.com/content/tv/optik/applications/facebook-on-optik-tv.jsp

Once you've got your account set up, you can log in using the 4 digit PIN you created.  Your Facebook wall posts will appear on the bottom of the page, while you will be able to use the left side of the page to like or dislike the shows you're watching, or to type out new status updates.

As a heads up though, the Facebook application does shrink your TV view, and the lettering is quite small, so this is likely to be of more use on large screen TVs than smaller TVs.  In addition, if you want to enter status updates, be prepared to do a lot of navigating using your TV remote.  Still for basic updates, it works.  Probably the best feature on it though is the ability to like or dislike shows.  Found a movie or show you really like, go ahead and like it to tell your friends its worthwhile watching.  Or, if you watched something you thought was stupid and don't think your friends will appreciate, feel free to hit the Dislike button.  You just might be doing your friends a favour.

If you have Telus Optik TV, check it out.  This is a neat way to keep your friends informed using Facebook, and is an interesting tool that has some real potential.

One thing is certain, I like how Telus is taking advantage of the technology offered by the Microsoft Mediaroom software, and I'm looking forward to seeing just what else Telus might have up their sleeve.
