If you like playing pranks on your friends, look no further than ZombieBooth. Simply upload someone's headshot and within minutes you can turn her into a life-like zombie, complete with 3D effects. In other words, your still image turns into a scary animated video complete with festive filters so you can add more guts, gore, and grit.

Trick or Tracker (Android - $4.99)
Let's face it. Halloween night can be scary fun for kids, but it can also be just plain scary for parents. To give you some peace of mind, try a location-based app to keep track of your kids. For Android users, Trick or Tracker (see video preview here) will let you get real-time updates from your child (there are different features for parents and children). You can also set up the digital download to send you automatic location notifications at certain intervals (thanks to the ability to pair devices with a unique security code). The child using the app can also click on the "Locate Parent" button to find his Mom or Dad. Apple's Find My Friends has some similar capabilities to help to locate another iOS user, but it lacks the additional notification features of Trick or Tracker. Remember, however, while these apps are great, they are no safety substitution for accompanying your child door-to-door.

Pumpkin Pal (iOS - $0.99)
Let's say that it's Halloween afternoon and you forgot to carve a pumpkin. Yes, I know, this probably never happens to you, but just in case it does here is a nifty app that can help. If you own an iPad, Pumpkin Pal will make it easy to "carve" a pumpkin on the screen. After you pick your digital pumpkin size, you can choose other features to make a fancy no-mess jack-o-lantern. Finally, when you finish your creation (which should take less than five minutes), you can light up your Pumpkin Pal and put it in the window so the kids on your street know you're part of the Halloween tradition (or, more accurately, home to give out candy).
Just for geeks
Digital Dudz (iOS/Android - FREE)
The folks from Digital Dudz are getting much-deserved credit for one of the coolest high-tech costumes in 2012. Thanks to a series of pre-designed t-shirts that require you to duct-tape your smartphone inside, you can show up October 31st with a bloody beating heart or spooky moving witch eyes on your chest. While it's probably too late to order one of these tees, the good news is that you can download the app and opt for a do-it-yourself treatment at home. Sure, it won't look as good as the real thing, but it's an inexpensive way to set yourself apart from other costumed friends. Simply choose one of the designs in the app, tape your device inside an old shirt, and cut out some holes to let the gore shine.
Just for kids
If you're trying to calm your kids down before or after their sugar intake Halloween night, this interactive book app can help. Based on the story from the classic animated 1960s cartoon, this download will take your wee ones on a Charlie Brown pumpkin adventure. Aside from simply reading the book, there are objects within that come to life when you click on them and you can also create your own characters. The best part? The app book is narrated by Peter Robbins, who is best known as the original voice of Charlie Brown. Originally this download was $4.99, but it's now on sale for just $1.99 (the add-ons for costumes can get pricey, so avoid them if possible). Check out this video.
