Third Rail Mobility offers Modular Battery Solution for iPhone 4
As today's devices get slimmer and thinner, the only spec that remains challenged is battery life. Dual core processors, gigabytes of RAM, larger and more lavish screens are all marquee features in today's mobile devices but battery life remains relatively backwards in terms of capacity. How can users add precious power to devices without bulking up? Third Rail Mobility has a system that works.
Third Rail Mobility seems to have an answer for power hungry iPhone users that want the option of keeping slim. Their US $90.00 modular approach to the power problem incorporates a thin case that acts as a receptacle for an external battery pack.
With just the case on, the iPhone 4 is hardly any thicker than if it had no case. What's more is that the case does a decent job of protecting the iPhone's corners and back plus it adds some texture to give the device some grip.
Once additional power is needed, simply slip on one (or more, they're stackable) of Third Rail Design's Smart Batteries and you get enough to fully charge the device. The Smart Battery also offers an additional port for connecting to virtually any USB powered device which means that it can also recharge Bluetooth headsets, other phones and possibly even smaller tablets.
Serious iPhone users can buy as many Smart batteries US ($60.00 a pop) as they need for quick plug and play use which is ideal for the all-day grind of tradeshows, long flights or event coverage.
One issue that bothered us a bit was that our iPhone felt warm while using the case even without the smart battery pack connected. This is something that merits further investigation.
While not the cheapest solution around, Third Rail Mobility's system is one of the best we have tried because it allows users to keep their iPhones bulk-free while maintaining a smart and cable free solution for charging up.
