Ubisoft's PlayStatio n Vita Games Out Now
Unless you were one of the people who ordered a PS Vita "First Edition" Bundle, you actually don't have a PS Vita in your hands right now (and even if you did order it, you might not, literally, have a PS Vita in your hands while you read this, unless you're reading this on a PS Vita, which seems totally possible.) However, even with the handheld not being officially released until the 22nd of February (next Wednesday) you can buy pretty much the system's entire launch slate already. Ubisoft got in touch with us to let us know all about the games they've put on the system that you can buy right now, so we're going to spotlight those. Other video games from other publishers are available!
The games on offer are:
Asphalt: Injection ($29.99):The portable racing series that I still think of the sort of thing that you'd play on a Nokia phone is on Vita with "new and exclusive dual-stick, gyroscope and back panel controls." There are ten different types of events to race through a career mode with more than 100 races in places like Shanghai and Monte Carlo plus "social features." The problem is that I have such a negative association with the Asphalt brand. Hmm.
Dungeon Hunter Alliance ($39.99): A bit like Asphalt, I think of this as an iOS dungeon crawler first and foremost! Maybe it was on Nokia phones too... anyway, Ubisoft claim this is the "first action RPG for PS Vita" wher ethe player faces "the world of Gothicus and its hordes of evil creatures solo or in teams of up to four heroes." It's a sorta Diablo/Torchlight-a-like, where you can "Use the front and back touch panels to switch weapons, zoom in and out of the action, and perform spells."
Lumines™ Electronic Symphony ($39.99): Lumines! We talked about this one a bit already, right here.
Michael Jackson The Experience ($39.99): Er, yes. Probably not the most obvious thing you're going to run out and buy, really, but according to Ubisof the title "invites players on a spectacular interactive journey through 15 scenes inspired by the King of Pop’s music videos and short films." In fact they go on to say that it's @an experience as close as it gets to dancing on a portable console" which I suppose does sound kind of intriguing. But maybe not quite intriguing enough.
Rayman Origins ($29.99): Yay! One of the best games of last year hits the PS Vita, which might seem like a bit of a cop-out we suppose as it is, you know, the same game that's on a ton of other systems, but if you don't own it already it really does seem like... well, that you should own it. And the PS Vita's screen is definitely able to show quite how gorgeous the 2D art of this game is. Here's Erika's review of the game when it was released: but if you can't be bothered clicking through, the title has 60 levels and 100 characters over six worlds, and this version features new touch-fetures such as the ability to collect lums, smack enemies, or zoom in allowing you to experience the rich graphics in greater detail.
