If you live in Alberta or Ottawa, I hope you’ve had the chance to retire your old electronics at your local Future Shop. As you know from my first-ever post that was made earlier this month on the Tech Blog I highlighted some of the great green campaigns Future Shop has launched recently, including the new Electronics Take Back program.
At Future Shop, we recognize there’s a real need in Canada for programs like the Electronics Take Back. For residents in the province of Alberta (except in Grande Prairie) and Ottawa, ON, you’re encouraged to bring two electronics for recycling – big or small and free of charge – to your local Future Shop store. Just see an associate for details and they will ensure the products are properly recycled. Click here to see what we accept at our locations nationally.
Future Shop recycles responsibly and locally
You may be asking yourself: “who handles Future Shop’s electronics recycling from the Electronics Take Back program?” and “where are the old electronics taken?” We have a “go local” approach, where all our partners of the program are located in the provinces at stores offering the programs. For example, we have two partners in Alberta handling the safe recycling of our electronics, eCycle Solutions and the Global Electric Electronics Processing (GEEP) in Edmonton.
GEEP recently shared with us a simple demonstration of how their recycling process works through a short video. Watch the video below and see how they will handle electronics for recycling after they’ve been received at our Edmonton stores:
Looking ahead
We’re taking a responsible approach to the roll out the Electronics Take Back program for many reasons. We want to make sure we follow guidelines for all the partners we need involved from governments, municipalities, our stores, and especially the handlers who safely recycle electronics locally.
You can expect to hear more from Future Shop and how we’ll bring the Electronics Take Back program to other Canadian markets – so stayed tuned. An easy way to hear about our offers and announcements is by joining our Facebook Fan Page or by following us on Twitter.
I invite you to see what kind of impact Future Shop has made so far with our electronics recycling, click here. You’ll also find some useful tips on how you can starting conserving energy at home and work.
If you live outside Alberta or Ottawa and you have some small electronics floating around that you’d like to recycle, be mindful that all 144 Future Shop store locations accepting a number of items via our Greentec bins, white and green in colour which are located at the front of our stores.
Let’s all take a step forward together to better our environment and retire our electronics responsibly.
