Want to be spaced out? Get the NASA app for iPad

If there are two things that always go together it's geeks and space. Well my fellow geeks, at least those with iPads, you have got to stop what you're doing and download the new NASA in HD iPad app. It's free, don't worry about that, and once you have the app in front of you if your first words aren't "wow" you need your head adjusted.

If you are interested in more than just the basics of space, this is the app you want to have on hand. Yeah you've got the essential solar system info, but that's just the beginning. You have news, calendar, images, movies…in HD people, in HD!

Like my recent addiction to Angry Birds, I can only "treat myself" to a few minutes of time with this app at a shot or I tend to get lost in all the info and realize that a half an hour has past by. Yeah I thought I knew about Venus, Mercury and Mars, but I spent some time catching up on the latest data and loved it! Yeah I have to work my way through the outer planets and some more of the history of space flights, that might be a nice weekend project.

As the school year starts to ramp up in the next week, I think apps like this NASA one should be must-haves for students and teachers. I would love if Apple would just have a bundle of the best education apps that teachers and students could just buy and download as one giant package. In the meantime, just get this app. It's cool, it's free, and it might just inspire the next generation of astronauts and engineers.

And those of us who still want to be.
